Kingfishers Home Learning 13th May

Date: 13th May 2020 @ 8:56am

Good morning everyone. A positive improvement on participation numbers yesterday which is great to see. I uploaded some videos to yesterdays blog for anyone who might have missed them - make sure you give them a watch for help with your written work this week.

Todays tasks -

1) Read Theory x 2

2) Times tables rockstars

3) LBQ code - apu

Maths -  moving onto looking at line graphs. Line graphs show changes over time. The video below should give you some background on this before starting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Opd1GDJjx4s

English - (determiners) We looked at these back in January. There are lots of types of determiners however in general a determiner is a short word which comes before a noun to give it context - simply, it can tell us how many there are. The start of this video should explain it, it is the same video we used parts of earlier in the year. You don't need to know about all of the different types of determiners just yet - you just need to be able to identify them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdv59REiNZQ

4) Writing task - Planning your balanced argument

If you have not done the previous days task, I would suggest watching my videos on yesterdays blogs and complete them first before planning. For this lesson, I have attached an example planning sheet on the task on SeeSaw (you do not need to use this one but it is an idea). I would break my planning down into - Intro, arguments for, arguments against, conclusion. It should be as straightforward as placing your for and against points you created yesterday and organising them into your plan. You might need to think about how you can expand and discuss further about some of the larger points.

5) Topic web homework - Choose an activity from the topic webs and upload to SeeSaw.

Good Morning Woodpeckers!!

Super work yesterday Woodpeckers. I saw lots of newspapers and time capsule ideas. I was also sent some beautiful photographs by Lucy taken of the beautiful world in which we live.

Take a look at these:

Such a fantatsic idea to draw the handprints of all of your family members.

A lovely image by Rebecca to remember the rainbows from the Covid 19 lockdown

Here is a wonderful way to present your time capsule

Here is Erin’s newspaper report. Isn't it fantastic!

For more work, please look at the discussion blogs as you can see the work as it’s sent in and they might help you to gather ideas before you start.

Here are today’s tasks Woodpeckers:

LBQ – Code   krx   (all lowercase)

There are 3 tasks, please complete all 3 tasks. If you get stuck, read the information given.

LBQ tasks will run until 5:30pm. Thanks to parent suggestion for this.

Maths is about finding 10/100 more or less than a number. Remember, if you are finding 10 more or less, change the tens digit. If you are finding 100 more/less, change the hundreds digit. You could also use a column method to find the answer.

Reading

Everyday I set you a reading task on LBQ. Over the week, complete one other task on Read Theory too.

Other Tasks

Take a look on the discussion blogs for this week’s tasks  😊

Happy Wednesday Robins smiley

I hope that you are all doing well. I love the character in the picture I have put above, Winnie the Pooh is my favourite character from childhood books. For my 7th Birthday, my grandparents bought me a collection of all the Winnie the Pooh stories, I actually saw it in our school library last year and it brought back some great memories from my childhood, reading with my Nana and Grandad. Who is your favourite book character?

Writing task

The writing tasks have started to come in already this week. I really enjoyed reading Dakota's letter to her Grandma and Harris wrote one that made me laugh out loud to his future self, it was a brilliant read Harris. I will attach them both to this blog post so that you can have a read. Chloe has also made a fantastic memory/hope jar I really enjoyed reading what you hope to do when this is all over. Thank you so much for sharing guys!

Kingfishers Home Learning 12th May

Date: 12th May 2020 @ 8:53am

Good morning!

17/27 on LBQ yesterday, lets try to break 20 today please. You did well on bar charts yesterday so today we will be moving onto some slightly tricker bar chart problems.

1) Read theory

2) Times tables rockstars

3) LBQ code - APE

Maths -  bar chart work. I posted a video blog on Kingifshers blog yesterday which might help.

Punctuation - adverbs of time and place

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zgsgxfr

4) Writing task - today you could choose your argument and start thinking of sides for and against. Try to find facts and figures to support your points. Try and think of the main, most important arguments. It is important that you choose the MAIN facts which will allow you to expand on them in more detail. Remember, it is a balanced argument so they do not need to be what you think. You are thinking about what everyone might think. Here is an example I have made. I have drawn lines to point which are linked and could be used as counter arguments (an argument said in response to another argument to challenge it).

5) Afternoon topic web work

It's been really lovely to see that some of you are developing new skills whilst you are away from school. This week we've had one person learning how to rollerblade and another practising their drumming skills. Way to go!!

We've also had children who are furthering their Science learning at home. Here, one person created a solar oven - to use the sun's rays to melt chocolate and another tried to imagine what it would be like to write in space, so used his table to help. What creative ways to extend your learning!

Keep up all of your wonderdul learning Owl Class - I'm one very proud teacher!!
