PSHE- keeping our bodies healthy

We have been learning about having healthy bodies and minds. We had lots of fun measuring our pulse before and after exercise. We also thought about how we felt before and after.

The Darkest Dark

Today we read The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield. Earlier this week we researched the former astronaut and learnt lots of facts about him so we were really excited to read his story. We then watched the first landing on the moon as this is what inspired Chris to become an astronaut!

Democracy in action!

Last week the whole school voted on what we would like to raise money for. We had two options to choose from – the Australian bushfires or Sports Relief. We discussed what voting is and why it is important and then voted in our own polling station! Our Y2 school councillor kept a watchful eye over proceedings.  The vast majority voted in favour of raising money to help the Australian bushfire relief.

How germs spread

In PSHE we’ve been looking at how easily germs can spread and how important it is to wash our hands properly. We put glitter on our hands to represent germs and then washed our hands. We found that lots of us still had glitter on our hands. We now know to wash our hands with soap and ensure we clean all parts of the hand.

Hindu temple visit

We had a wonderful morning at the Swaminarayan temple in Bolton. We learnt all about their God and what they celebrate and we had a good look around the temple to see the statues and the  paintings. We were amazed at the paintings on the ceilings!

Measuring spaghetti

Today we continued learning practically by measuring spaghetti. It was a bit sticky but that made it more fun! So,e children had to measure the length, others had to find the total length of two,pieces and one group went into the hall to try and make 1 metre!

Measuring in maths

In maths we are starting a new unit on measurement. We discussed how we measure length (cm and m) and investigated the length of various items in the classroom.

Computing

Meditation in RE

In Big Question this morning we looked at achievements from outside of school. We have children that go to Rainbows and Beavers, performing arts and swimming lessons. It’s great to see our talents outside of school. Well done all!
