Acrostic poems

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:36am

Today we started a new writing topic all about acrostic poems. Miss Whalley even told us that we’re going to be entering a competition and some of our poems might be published in a book! First, we needed to know that an acrostic poem is, so we looked at some examples and then tried to write our own in groups, based on fireworks. We then presented our poems to the class.

Habitat Hunting!

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:36am

Swallows spent the afternoon in our outdoor area hunting for mini-beats and their habitats. We braved the chilly weather and the damp air to discover some of the creatures that live under our feet, including some slimy critters! Safe to say, there were some interesting finds during the process! Super Science Swallows!

Safer Internet Day- Identity

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:34am

Swallows focussed toady’s Computing lesson on the theme of Safer Internet Day. This years theme is managing our online identity and so our initial discussion was regarding what is identity and how does this affect us. We discussed how we use avatars and profiles to present ourselves online and even changing our passwords / login to suit our identity. We discussed our reasons behind this and the interpretations of ourselves and others online.

As part of this task, we created a poster to demonstrate our personality and identity, describing our best features and most meaningful traits.

Home achievements

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:33am

We had children who took part in martial arts, summer reading competitions and even iron man kids! Well done to our talented children!

Swallows Patrol Chester

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:32am

Swallows trip to Chester went off without any ‘centurions’ being forced into the amphitheatre! All the children thoroughly enjoyed the day out to the museum and to see some of the city itself.  We spent the morning of the day firstly being shown around a Roman galley and fortress, then to a Roman bath house and hospital. The children enjoyed the sites and even got the chance to perform some minor archaeology! Thanks to all parents for your support with the the trip, the children got so much learning from the experience!

Homework

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:31am

We have had even more fabulous homework sent into school!

Money, Money, Money...

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:31am

Swallows spent yesterday morning ‘summing’ up their money topic with a visit from Natwest bank’s ‘MoneySense’ team. The staff were fabulous and led the children through very tricky lines of questioning, including what we ‘need’ and ‘want’ in our lives. We investigated how to provide for a pet and then topped all this super leaning off with a song to help recall the do’s and don’t’s when it comes to spending!

Home achievements

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:31am

In Big Question this morning, we looked at what we like to do outside of school. Some children brought in certificates and medals and explained how they achieved them. We have a performer, a martial arts expert, a tree climber and a Russian speaker! What a talented class we are!

Mosiac revisited

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:30am

Swallows afternoon was filled with such enthusiasm that the mosaics they have created look unbelievable! The children added the finishing touches to the mosaic pattern work and used the adhesive to straighten and perfect some imperfections, before cleaning.

The end product is yet to come, however the children have shown some excellent skill with some tricky development of their pieces, all the while working well as a team to tidy and support with the adhesive process. Very well done Swallows!

The great Swallows mosiac make

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:29am

The children today completed the first steps of their Roman mosaics all with actual tiles! The children used tile adhesive, boards (courtesy of Mr Griffiths) and ceramic tiles to follow their planned patterns. There were some outstanding examples of ability and design, not to mention team-work and encouragement. Well done with a potentially tricky task Swallows, some future tilers in the making!

Homework

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:29am

We have had even more homework brought in by Owls this week. Well done everybody!

Digital media

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:28am

We have been using our drawing skills to create our self portraits on the computer. It was really tricky but we didn’t give up!

Invasion!!!

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:27am

Friday saw Swallows welcome a very unfamiliar guest! A Celtic Iceni Warrior, Anya, made her way into our midst to escape capture by the Romans! She told us of her escape form the hands of the mighty army invading her lands and made sure we were well aware of the consequences of not siding with the natives!

The children were able to ask Anya questions and she gave us a great insight into life as a Celt when their lands were taken from them. The children’s enthusiasm spoke volumes and the facts they were already able to retell made this a fascinating encounter. Superb learning Swallows!

Bar modelling for number bonds

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:27am

Today we looked at number bonds to 10 and 20. We used a bar model to help us.

Life cycles

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:26am

In Science, we have been looking at the life cycle of different animals. This week we looked at amphibians and how they grow. We used plasticine to create models of each stage and then created our life cycle with our partners.

Distinguished Digestion…

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:25am

Swallows showed some outstanding learning and teamwork this afternoon in Science. The children brought to life the human digestion system using a pair of tights and some mushed up crackers with bananas! Its was a fantastic opportunity to discuss the various organs that play a part in the processing of food and the children really got ‘stuck in’ to the messy bits too! Excellent collaborative working Swallows, even when tidying up afterwards!

Reading Challenge winner

Mosiac Madness

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:24am

Swallows spent the afternoon Art lesson creating and constructing their preliminary patterns and borders for their Mosaic construction. We used stamps and 2D tesserae to construct a basis of research for when it comes to our final design.

Some of the patterns were really unique and extremely authentic looking. Well done Swallows!

Splendorous Shapes

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:23am

Swallows spent their morning in Maths identifying then modelling 3D shapes using Play Doh. The children used some tricky vocabulary to identify the faces, edges and vertices of a given shape then used their own model to see if they were correct. Excellent problem solving Swallows, keep it up!

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:23am

Here is this week’s star! Well done for impeccable manners and always working hard!
