Robins Class - Learning Overview 11.5.20

Date: 10th May 2020 @ 2:53pm

Good morning Robins,

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend, wasn't the weather on Saturday beautiful, I spent a few hours out in the garden, it was lovely. I've also started a virtual book club with some friends this weekend, we are all reading the same book and discussing it every Sunday using 'zoom'. I'm quite excited about it. How was your weekend?

Today's home learning is as follows:

IXL

Maths – Year 2 – Measurement - R.1, R.2, R.3

English – Nouns - M.9, M.10

Don’t forget there are 2Dos set on Purple Mash. Times Table Rockstars is also available too, it is great to see some of you improving your times tables knowledge. I’ve seen so many more of you on readtheory which is excellent. Keep aiming for one comprehension a day.

Writing Task

Look out for the separate writing task blog - this week we would like you to create a hope jar or a letter to yourself detailing what you would like to do when this is over. There is more detail in the writing blog as well as an example and success criteria.

This week's spelling will be going on a class discussion shortly.

Today's spelling sound is 'au'

Have a great day everyone!

KS1 Writing Task - Hopes for the future Jar/Letter

Date: 10th May 2020 @ 2:43pm

Writing Task – w/c 10.5.20

This week’s writing task is a creative one! We would like you to make a memory jar.  Decorate a jar and write on paper all your hopes and wishes. These can then be pulled out and completed once lockdown is over. Think about something you and your family can look forward to doing.  You can do this at home and then post pictures. If you are struggling to be creative you can write a letter to yourself using Purple Mash detailing your hopes and wishes for the future.

If you choose the jar then you will need:

A jar

Cut up bits of paper

A pen/felt tips/ pencil crayons

That’s it, it’s really simple, Mrs Penman and Mrs Handley have made one with their children so I have included their example below, don’t they look fantastic!

I have attached a success criteria below to hopefully help you out, I can’t wait to see what you create.

Success Criteria – Letter to future self/Message of hope

I have come up with at least 5 things I would like to do

I have been creative (included pictures/colours etc)

I have used conjunctions (e.g My hope is to go the zoo because I would like to see all the animals)

I have used capital letters and full stops

I have said who my memory will include

I have created it with only a little help

I have included adjectives

Please also note, that these written tasks are aa reflection of what the children can do, please do not worry about words being spelt correctly. The expectation is that children are using and applying their phonics knowledge and knowledge of tricky words to help them sound out and spell the words.

We can't wait to read the messages and letters of hope!

Good Morning Robins smiley

It is another beautiful day, I am missing you all lots. I let the Guinea Pigs have a run around my living room yesterday, they found every possible hiding place they could. To get them back in their cage I had to lure them out from under an armchair using some cucumber, they enjoyed the run around though.

VE Fact of the Day

Buckingham Palace was lit up in floodlights for the first time in six years since the war began and two searchlights formed a V, the sign of peace above St Paul's Cathedral in London. All the lights were turned off again the next day.

Robins Class Home Learning - 4.5.20

Good morning my little cherubs,

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend, I did some great stretching exercises yesterday as I woke up feeling a bit achey, I feel so much better for it today. I've nearly finished my newest book now as well. I organised my bookcase last weekend and found books I completely forgot I had so I am planning to read some of those again before I start anything new. Have any of you found any good books? I know Hope mentioned she had read a Horrid Henry book when she wrote a message on purplemash. I love hearing what you are up to, so feel free to keep me up to date! I am missing you all.

This week is VE Day, did you see the blog post about it on Friday? There are so many activities that you could do in relation to this. Each day I will give you one new fact about VE Day, this will hopefully help you with your writing task that you have been set as well, it would be great if you could give me some facts as well.

VE Day stands for Victory in Europe Day, it marks the day that Prime Minister, Winston Churchill made a radio announcement that the war in Europe had come to an end!

KS1 Writing Task - VE Day factfile w/c 4.5.20

Date: 3rd May 2020 @ 2:55pm

On Friday we will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day. A blog was posted on Friday to detail some activities that you could do this week as part of the celebrations.

For this week's writing task we are asking you to make a fact file about what VE Day is and why we celebrate it. Now I know we have not really written many fact files so I have, as usual, attached an example of this below and a success criteria.

The task is set on Purplemash, but you can present it in any way you wish, be this through a poster, a handwritten factual leaflet, a word document, a powerpoint etc. Please include any photos of your finished product so that they can be displayed on the blog.

Example

I am sure you can include more facts, each day this week I plan to post one fact about VE Day, you are welcome to use these facts to complete your fact file. This is also a great website to look at based on the day

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/48201749

Success Criteria – VE Day Fact file

I have included a title

I have included facts (aim for at least 5)

I have included sub-headings

I have organised my writing into paragraphs

My facts make sense to the reader

I have included good vocabulary

I have used capital letters and full stops

We look forward to seeing your finished product.

VE Celebrations – WB 4.5.20

Dear Parents,

Next week marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day and despite not being in school, we would still like to be able to celebrate this with the children.

It would be brilliant if at home you could have a tea party or a picnic on Friday as a special celebration on this day. Some streets are planning a ‘Stay at home street party’.

At home, it would be great if your child could make a VE Day t shirt (decorate a plain t shirt using felt tips of fabric paint) which they can wear to their own VE Day tea party/picnic.

Here are some ideas for your child to complete at home if they would like to. If you do complete any of these activities, we would love you to share them with us on the blog.

Star of the Week..

Date: 1st May 2020 @ 8:41am

Every Friday I will be uploading on to the blog my Star of the Week. I will be looking online throughout the week and picking a child who has caught my eye, through IXL, readtheory, purplemash and Time Tables Rockstars.

You are all working super hard, I am really impressed by what you are doing at home. If it isn’t you this week, it might be your turn next week.

This week’s star is …

This week Emily has shown super determination with telling the time, projecting a super idea for learning to tell the time by making a clock. I have no doubt you are being your usually bubbly, positive self whilst your learning at home! I have loved seeing all your home learning.

Well done.

Robins Class Home Learning - 28.4.20

Date: 27th Apr 2020 @ 8:44pm

Good Morning my little Robins

I hope that you are all doing well. What have you been up to? I decided to watch a Disney film I had never seen before last night, it was called 'Coco' we talked about it when we learning all about Mexico and the festivals, do you remember? It was such a lovely film and made me think back to the sugar skulls that we made, there were lots of colours. It reminded me of all the Mexico learning we did.

Today's learning is as follows:

IXL

Maths – Year 2 – Time – W.16, W.17, W.18

I know some of you are probably struggling with the concept of time, it is a really tricky subject so do not worry. Some of the questions you are being asked will ask you to work out how many hours there are between two times, for example

'Iain works at a hospital, he starts work at 9am and finishes at half 8, how long is Iain's shift?'

The best way to work out a question like this is to use a number line, like the one shown below

I hope this helps, but like I said do not worry if you do not understand it. A good idea to help get the basics of time is to make a clock, one of you has done this already

English – Verbs – O.16, O.17, O.18

Don’t forget there are 2Dos set on Purple Mash. Times Table Rockstars is also available too, it is great to see some of you improving your times tables. Try to aim for one reading comprehension a day on Readtheory.
