Year 2- Owls: Blog items

Using pods

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 3:57pm

Today we registered our pod devices and then assigned our name to them – very technical for Y2! We then had a go at some maths work to practise our new pod skills.

Bolton Music Service

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 3:56pm

We had a real treat this morning when Bolton Music Service performed a concert for us. We sang along and even had a dance!

This young lady took part in a reading scheme at the library over the summer and received a certificate and medal for reading lots of books. Well done!

Reading to our cuddly friends

This morning we took 10 minutes out of our day to read to our cuddly friends from the reading corner.

Owls Class

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 3:53pm

We’ve had a wonderful start to life in Y2 and can’t wait to see all of the exciting learning that will be taking place this year!

First landing on the moon

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 3:52pm

Continuing our Science topic on space, we watched the first landing on the moon. We discussed facts about Neil Armstrong and how, because there is no weather on the moon, his footprints are still on the surface of the moon. We then created our own ‘moon footprints’ using salt dough.

Flipping Pancakes!

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 3:47pm

We really enjoyed the challenging of  ‘flipping a pancake!’.

The children showed good resilience with this tricky task.  They just kept trying again until they achieved their goal!

Washing our hands properly

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 3:45pm

This morning we watched Newsround and saw how we can wash our hands properly. We know it is important to wash our hands to make sure we don’t spread coughs and colds. Now we know to wash our hands for 20seconds and to sing ‘happy birthday’ so we know how long to wash for.

This afternoon we all had a practise!

The moon

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 3:44pm

Yesterday, during Daily Mile time, we saw the moon make an early appearance! We’ve loved learning about space and are now always looking up to see what we can see. Lucy even managed to see Venus over the weekend!

Star of the Week

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 3:43pm

Well done for a fantastic attitude and being so helpful to other children!

Well done for reading 4 times this week and enjoy your new book!

World Book Day

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 3:38pm

Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day in school and had a wonderful day discussing all the things we love about books! Some of our families came into school to share their favourite books and take part in a reading activity. We also read to Kingfisher Class who were really impressed with our reading fluency. Finally we took part in a ‘character catwalk’ where we showed off our costumes to the school. Wow, what a day!

We’ve enjoyed learning about space so much that we’ve decided to apply to NASA to become astronauts! We did some super writing at length and then made some short videos to share how much we have learnt (please click on the IMG link below).
