Starlings Star of the Week

Date: 22nd May 2020 @ 10:04am

So we have reached the end of this half term. It has certainly been fully of change and you have all been so resilliant! As with every week, I am spoiled for choice when picking my star, but this week, I am choosing a young man who has been going above and beyond over the course of the last few months. He has always completed every task alongside doing his own additional learning, making him a perfect role model.

My Star of the Week is Harry Boardman, congratulations young man!

Good morning Starlings!

I hope you have had a lovely long weekend, and that you managed to celebrate VE Day responsibly. We had a street party using Zoom and my house even won the waterslide duck race!

Some of you may have heard Boris Johnson’s speech about lockdown last night. No matter what happens over the following weeks, I hope you remember to keep washing your hands and respect the social distancing. I really would like to see you all back healthy and well!

Your work this week is as follows:

LBQ: wqd

Writing Task: Your task is to attempt another newspaper article. The focus this week will be everything about Coronavirus. What has happened, what we believe will happen next, an interview with someone in your house about how they feel. Please see the class discussion page for more guidance.

Afternoon Learning: Create a graph or chart to compare different volcanoes around the world (Try to choose some volcanoes you have not researched before). You could look at their height, width, age or surface area.

Please keep logging on to TTRockstars to practice your Times Tables. You are encouraged to challenge myself, other teachers or your friends in school.

Read theory and IXL are also still available for if you would like to further your learning on an area that you think you would benefit most from.

Let’s have another great week Starlings! Enjoy yourselves, stay safe!

Now for my star of the week:

This person has not missed a single day of home learning, always tries her best, never has over 4 attempts at a question and manages to go above and beyond almost every day. Her attitude is inspirational and she should be really proud of herself. Well done this week to Amelia Threlfall!

Date: 1st May 2020 @ 3:29pm

Good afternoon Starlings!

I have been saying for a few days now how impressed I have been with your learning and activities that you have been doing at home and I believe now is a good time to celebrate all this fantastic work. I cannot get each example of work on here as there are so many great pieces, but if some of your work has been missed off this post I will make sure it is on the next celebration!

Volcanoes

I would like to thank everyone for their amazing work when producing your volcanoes and fact files! It is clear you have put a lot of time and effort into these, I couldn’t be more proud!

Creative Skills

Many of you have been learning lots of new skills which is fantastic! I have done the same and I now challenge you to a bake off! This is my attempt at a Volcano Cake:

I’m sure you will be able to rival this effort and enjoy the finished product yourselves!

I have seen Lily becoming a great chef making some very tasty looking bread, see her blog for her very successful attempt.

LBQ

On LBQ the following children have been on every day this week:

Amelia, Elsie, Emelia, Eva, Harry B, Harry M, Jake, Oliver L, Olivia J and Olivia T. Congratulations guys that is fantastic! If I have missed your name I apologise, I shall be checking LBQ later tonight to double check and update the list if needs be.

VE Celebrations – WB 4.5.20

Dear Parents,

Next week marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day and despite not being in school, we would still like to be able to celebrate this with the children.

It would be brilliant if at home you could have a tea party or a picnic on Friday as a special celebration on this day. Some streets are planning a ‘Stay at home street party’.

At home, it would be great if your child could make a VE Day t shirt (decorate a plain t shirt using felt tips of fabric paint) which they can wear to their own VE Day tea party/picnic.

Here are some ideas for your child to complete at home if they would like to. If you do complete any of these activities, we would love you to share them with us on the blog.
