Year 4- Woodpeckers: Blog items
Date: 27th Nov 2020 @ 9:01am
In the Woodpecker class we have been working on activities which develop mindfulness. Every week, at least one early morning activity allows us to choose a mindfulness activity such as colouring, drawing, writing, reading or TTRS. The activity that we choose is something we enjoy and which we feel helps us relax and have some calm time. We play quiet music as we work to create a very calm classroom.

We have a new Digital Leader in the Woodpecker class. This is a very important role! First we looked at the job advertisement, we applied if we wanted to have a try and we had to explain why we would be good at the role. Once we had all the applications in, the digital leader was chosen.
This role involves helping other children in the class with their computing skills. Our Digital Leader has completed their training today and is ready to go!

Today in the Woodpecker class we have had a busy morning thinking about Remembrance Day. First, we watched a wonderful and very interesting assembly presented by the Starlings class. Then we watched Mrs Richmond play the 'Last Post' before decorating pebbles and laying them on the garden at the front of school. We enjoyed looking at all of the poppy pebbles from the other classes in school as we added our own. In reading, we explored the poem 'In Flanders Field' and also researched more about Remembrance Day and poppies. Both of these tasks helped us to understand more about this important day. Finally, observed a minute silence which all of the children completed in the most respectful manner. A very busy but important morning.
Miss Altham had an even busier and more challenging morning as she had to decide on the winners or the poppy competition which we held online and in school. Unfortunately we didn't have any official winners in the Woodpecker class but the children are all winners in our eyes. Thank you to all children and parents for all of your hard work at home with your entries.
