We started our new unit of Computing (Computer Science) by completing a challenge.
The children had to try to use code to make their sprite create a rectangle.

This week, Doves class carried out some Geography fieldwork for Bolton Council at a nearby river. We took a number of measurements whilst we were there in order to work out the amount of water that flowed through the river (total discharge) per cubic meter per second. The council had asked us to monitor this due to the rising number of floods recently.

Today, we worked on the app IMovie to create a video of ourselves performing our prologues.initially, we watched the prologue of Beauty and the Beast and discussed the use of pictures to create an accurate representation of the mood and expression in our voices to depict emotion. We then chose pictures and recorded our prologues before sharing some with the class.
Healthy and unhealthy lifestyle habits

In French we created cartoon strips showing our healthy and unhealthy lifestyle habits.
We then shared this with peers in our class, practising how to ask the question and how to respond accurately.

As part of our Big Question this week we discussed the different things that we do at The Gates which makes our school unique. We all then chose a word which summarises how we do things at The Gates.

As part of our Healthy Lifestyles French topic, we learnt about activities we do to stay healthy. We then went round to the classroom asking people ‘Qu’est-ce tu fais pour maintenir ta santé (What do you do to maintain your health?). Recording this on a Tally sheet.

Today, we worked in pairs to answer some Fraction calculations applying our understanding of BIDMAS.

Today in English we looked at how to use punctuation to show parenthesis. To help us with this, we looked through existing stories and novels on our bookshelf to identify how they use parenthesis and how often. We magpied the structures to use in our own writing.

In Music, we continued to learn the song ‘Make you feel my love’. We learnt about the terms: pulse, rhythm and pitch and found these by clapping the rhythm and copying the riffs on the Glockenspiel.

Yesterday, in Design and Technology we learnt all about lift bridges. We discussed the pros and cons of each before individually deciding which lift bridge we though would be the best in preventing flooding in areas. Following this, we also discussed how we might build this into our model through the use of CAMS.
In addition to this, we also began to assemble our bridges in pairs. We learnt how to saw safely and accurately to create the pieces needed to create a Truss Bridge.

Today, we came in our own clothes, donating a pound towards Children in Need.
We even had a Pudsey competition, where children from School council chose a winner from each class. Well done to all the entrants who completed different Pudsey related pictures and models.

We have had four amazing pieces of homework handed in towards our topic web: information on a water borne disease, a graph showing the amount of rainfall over two weeks, a model of a bridge and research completed on the River Nile.
