Doves - 21st April - Home Learning
Date: 20th Apr 2020 @ 8:19pm
Good Morning!!
Hope you are all well and feeling refreshed, ready for a new day and even more learning! 😊
Today’s tasks will be as follows:
- Reading Solutions or Read Theory: 1 comprehensions (minimum) – I have been quite disappointed with the number of children completing this. Out of the 19 children who have access to Reading Solutions, only 2 completed comprehensions yesterday. This is a compulsory task and must be completed.
- LBQ:
SPAG x2 - code - mof
Maths x2 - Code – mwp
Here are some links to help support todays learning:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3hR3BHpeho (This is an EXTREMELY catchy song and I found myself singing this all night).
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zp937p3
Tips: Remember
An adverb is a word which tells you more about how, when, where or why an action happened e.g. carefully, happily etc remember they do not always end with 'ly'.
E.g. The train will arrive soon.
Soon adds to the verb 'arrive'.
An adverbial is a group of words which tells you more about how, when, where or why an action happened, this can sometimes be found at the start of a sentence known as a 'fronted adverbial'.
Maths Support:
The link below offers a recap/support with dividing proper fractions by whole numbers:
https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-sixth-grade-math/cc-6th-arithmetic-operations/cc-6th-dividing-fractions/v/visually-dividing-a-fraction-by-a-whole-number
Please remember that IXL is an additional learning opportunity and should only be used once the compulsory tasks have been completed e.g. LBQ, Reading Solutions/Read Theory, Spellings and Writing.
Oxford Owls
Oxford Owl, the company that we use for our home reader books have made a number of books available online whilst schools are closed. Please follow the link below.
https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/
Children can then chose which book band colour they are on using the ‘levels’ tab.
Then click on ‘book band’. I would suggest children in Y5/6 work on the following book bands: Dark Blue, Dark Blue + and Dark Red.
You may need to sign up to the website to access some of the books.
This is a great opportunity for children to continue their reading journey with books that are age and topic appropriate.
Keep working hard and stay safe!

RAR:
Hi everyone, well done to those who completed yesterday’s home learning.
When looking through the results, I noticed that Q22 had proven particularly tricky – it was answered incorrectly 71 times! So I thought I would do a little explanation and set a similar question for you to have a go at – a RAR!!!
Q22.
So we know:
Step 1:
To get the final answer of 36 cm2 we divide by 2. Most of you realised that by using the inverse operation, 36 x 2, it would give you the product of b x h (72).
(The Khan Academy video link I added also explains how your knowledge of area of parallelograms, and a triangle being half of a parallelogram, can help here too).
Step 2:
What is the greatest possible height of the triangle?
So right now we’re looking at b x h = 72.
So we need to find factor pairs of 72. If we do this systematically (as you’ve been shown!) then you your first pair would be 1 & 72. Are you going to find a larger number than 72 that goes into 72? No. So straight away, the greatest possible height of our triangle is 72.
See below:
RAR:
Blog your answers!!!

It’s Friday! How is it Friday already? This week has flown by! I’ve been in school this week and it sure isn’t the same without you all in. Hello Doves
How are you all? I hope you have had a lovely Easter break, making the most of this time with your family, learning new things and not indulging in too much chocolate! I’ve spent Easter completing lots of new, exciting things: gardening, running and my favourite – baking! I’ve baked: a crumble, banana loaf and Jaffa drizzle loaf (I think my family are enjoying my company!) Here are some pictures, have you noticed they are all half eaten? If you do any baking, make sure to share your pictures, I’d love to see them.

Well... that's the end of a strange week but the start of a well deserved break... Easter. Before we depart for a break, I want to share with you again the celebrations of the work completed today.
LBQ:
Well done to Thomas who gained full marks today on his Task 1 - Revision of KS2 Verbs.
IXL:
We are now up to 19,914 questions - just short of our 20,000 target! However, I know we can do it!
Special mention to Leon, who has ended the week answering the most amount of questions with 1,088!
Overall, Akshay is in the lead answering 2337 questions, with Leon just behind on 2238 questions.
This is our total overall so far for Doves Class:
Reading Solutions
Well done to Nathan who has completed his level A on reading solutions.
Other special mentions
My early bird worker for today was Leon, who started his work on IXL at 8:27am!
Also, a special mention to Parthiv, who has shown resilience with his Times Tables Rockstars throughout the week. It finally paid off today as Parthiv reached the target he had set himself.
Well done to all for continuing to show dedication and hard work towards your school work. Enjoy your Easter break and have lots of fun.

Good Morning Doves!
It's FRIDAY! Which means today is the last day to ensure you complete your tasks! This week has been a strange one for us all, but I am so impressed and so proud of the hard work I have seen this week. Your hard work and determination has once again put a smile on my face :) You all thoroughly deserve a nice weekend, away from work (parents too!).
It has been great to see so many of you eager to share your learning at home and start discussions. I've loved hearing from you and leaving you comments on your day!
Continuing with Doves Class tradition, every Friday I am going to set a 'Happy Friday' discussion (you can access/see this from your Pupil blog area). The theme is favourite dessert! Make sure you have a look and post your reply.

Reading Solutions
Well done to Gracie who has completed her level B on reading solutions.
Other special mentions
A massive thank you to Alfie and his family who have donated three bags of lego to a homeless children's charity. It's important during times like this to show generosity and kindness and stick together. This put a beaming smile on my face.
Lastly, another child to put a smile on my face today. A rainbow was drawn and shared to remind everyone that there is hope at the end of this.

Good Morning Doves!
It was great to see so many of you working hard on your home learning tasks, I am seeing some great results on the LBQ tasks left for you with your correct responses ranging from 55% to 82%. Please make sure on LBQ you are typing in your name and not a nickname.
I had a lovely day yesterday! I started with the Joe Wicks workout, spent some time outside in the sun with my dog and went for a lovely stroll (I even earned my Hawaii badge from Fitbit for walking 563 lifetime kilometres) - every little helps!
An email was sent out to parents last night in which you shold have received a pupil login for your own blog. This will make it super easier for you to tell me about your day and upload some pictures of your excellent home learning. Well done to Martha, Ava-Paige and Akshay who have already completed 1 blog post.
Today’s tasks will be as follows:
Reading Solutions or Read Theory: Comprehensions x2

Although museums are closed, there are lots of ways to still access a range of learning resources and activities wherever you go!
The British Museum are working hard to create a range of resources: powerpoints, classroom resoucres and ideas for activities to use at home.
They will also be sharing a range of resources for families to use over this period through their family newsletter. All you need to do is sign up to the British Museum website to receive a regular round-up of news and features.
Doves - 25th March 2020 - Home Learning
Date: 25th Mar 2020 @ 7:46am
Good Morning Doves,
I was super impressed AGAIN yesterday when I viewed all our our learning platform websites to see high engagement from you all! From LBQ tasks, to IXL (a further 1,377 questions answered), reading solutions and I even noticed a few challenges from children on Times Tables Rockstars (which I happily completed and sent back :) ).
Today, the LBQ tasks will only be open until 15:30, so make sure you are on there early to complete your tasks. Take your time answering questions, remember there isn't a prize for the first finished. I would like to see a lot more greens straight away today.
Hopefully you are continuing to achieve your activities bingo which we started! My aim this weekend is to plant some vegetables. I would love to hear about how you're doing and what you're up to, so make sure you're leaving a comment on the blog below
Today’s tasks will be as follows:
Reading Solutions or Read Theory: Comprehensions x2

Eagles / Doves - Maths. Task 2: Q13 & 29
Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 9:44am
Task 2:
Q13
The question and picture show different questions. Answer the question - not the fractions in the picture.
1 1/6 + 1/5 + 1 1/3 =
1 5/30 + 6/30 + 1 10/30
= 2 21/30
= 2 7/10
The correct answer should be 2 7/10. However, there is a mistake on LBQ which says the answer is 2 21/30 (not in simplest form). This has never happened before, apologies.
Q29:
Eating + Playing =
1 1/4 + 5 2/3 =
1 3/12 + 5 8/12 = 6 11/12
Total - Homework.
6 11/12 - 5/12 = 6 6/12
= 6 1/2
(LBQ says the answer is 3 1/2 - it isn't. I'll check through in future - this hasn't happened before. Must be a duff set!)
Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 8:04am
Throughout the night, I came across two great learning opportunities to share with you all.
1. David Walliams
David Walliams has written a range of amazing children's books and for the next 30 days at 11am, you can listen to one of David Walliams' World Worst Children Stories!
Following the following link: www.worldofdavidwalliams.com and scroll down to find the 'elevenses tab'.
2. BSL (British Sign Language)
https://www.british-sign.co.uk/shop/product/introducing-british-sign-language-enrolment/
This is an amazing opportunity and one that I have completed previously! BSL are allowing children to complete their course for free for children under the age of 18 (usually £75)! Along the way, you learn how to sign for different things e.g. colours, names, place etc before receiving an official certificate at the end once completed! However, I've noticed that lots of people are attempting to access this at the moment and there is often a queue to get on the site.

In school we follow the 100 book challenge which offers lots of exciting books for your children to read.
Here are the titles of the books which make up the challenge. It would be fantastic if all children continue with their daily reading by reading some of these books at home.
