Year 6- Eagles: Blog items
Eagles - New Class Blog - 06.07.20
Date: 6th Jul 2020 @ 9:19am
Welcome class of 2021!
I'm very excited to welcome you to your new blog and your new class!
Over the next two weeks, I will be setting you some taks to complete at home so I can learn lots more about you! Anything that you complete at home, please blog it - I would love to read and see them all. I would love for you to bring them in in September so that I can display them in class so make sure to keep them safe :)
Getting to know each other:
This week, I will be ringing home to say Hi! This will be a great chance for you to ask any questions which you may have. Next week, I wll also meet with you all over Zoom. If you haven't had an email with a date and time, please mention this when I call.
Today's Task:
Today I would like you to create a poster all about you! You could put a picture in the middle and create sections about your family, your hobbies, your favourite things and anything else that you would like to share.
Here are some examples to help you out!
Take a picture and blog your poster when you have finished. Remember, we need to keep safe online so we don’t want any personal details on the blog.
Here is a little bit about me:
- I support Arsenal in football.
- I used to play rugby union - until my hip didn't want to any more.
- My son has the same name as me - he's also called 'Mr Simpson'.
- My favourite lesson to teach is .... well I think you should know by now.
Health and Fitness Week:
This week is also Health and Fitness Week. Everyday we will set a separate task on the blog for you to complete at home.
Make sure to have a look at the ideas that Mr Horsley has set on the Main School Blog Page and blog any activities that you have done.
Have a great day!
Mr Simpson

Good morning Eagles!
Moving On:
I would just like to take this moment to congratulate all of you for your hard work this year and the fantastic motivation you have shown and maintained during this time away from school. You are all superstars!
Today will be the last day that we will post home learning for you guys - sad I know. But from Monday, we will be posting transition activities for next year's Year 6 and the time has come for you to focus on some of the transition activities that your respective high schools have set for you.
I'm really looking forward to seeing you all on the 13th (fingers crossed for good weather!) for our picnic - please make sure your parents respond to the survey that was sent out via School Spider by Monday's deadline.
PS - Can anyone make any links / suggestions about the balloon picture? Post your comments here.

If we can’t go to Robinwood, let’s bring them to us! (Sort of!)
Over the past two days in Bubble 7, we have been working hard to create our own rafts. We used a range of materials to ensure that our raft would float on water and we could save our little toy.
Well done to Amy, Lucy and Alfie who successfully saved their toy!

Over the past 2 weeks Bubble 7 have been working hard to write their own ‘I have a dream speech’ inspired by Martin Luther King. We discussed recent world events and the future world we would like to live in. I am so proud of the work created!
Here are our speeches attached below, make sure you have a read!

This week's star of the week is Ella! Great effort over these last couple of weeks, Ella. I've been very impressed with all the extra home learning you have been doing and the way you have kept in touch with school via the blog.
Eagles - 19.06.20 - Home Learning
Date: 19th Jun 2020 @ 8:01am
Good Morning Eagles - it's Friday!!!
Well done to Ella this week who did some extra writing at home on a rather controversial subject. Very thought provoking, Ella!
What do you think guys?
Also, well dont to Olivia who has been sending in lots and lots of examples of her work from this weeks home learning tasks:
Feedback:
After feedback from parents, teachers and children – we have decided to freshen up our home learning routine. LBQ will still be used but less so than previously. In its place, we will be using National Oak Academy to provide online teaching which will provide more support to your children whilst providing a wider range of subjects. Daily links will be provided for all lessons. Once on the site, most lessons start with a quick introductory quiz, followed by a teaching video, followed by an activity and a recap quiz.
Tasks for today:
- Y6 Reading (LBQ) - efv
- TT rockstars (20mins)
- Maths – LBQ - efv
This will test your maths knowledge from this weeks input.
Task 1 - Step 1/2
Task 2 – Step 3/4
Literacy –https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/set-of-instructions-write-a-set-of-instructions Submit your final copies of you writing to the blog.
Art- https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/texture-treasure-hunt-94e519

It would be great to see more examples of your learning coming in - thanks for your post yesterday, Ella. I've set up another discussiuon feed that you can post today's learning in. If you're working on a computer your easiest way is to use the 'snipping tool' located on your desktop programmes. This allows you to take a screenshot of your page and save the image which can then be uploaded.
Tasks for today:
Note: All tasks set will be pitched at UKS2, therefore tasks will look at both the Y5 curriculum and the Y6 curriculum.

Important information regarding reading -
There has been a slight change to your reading routine. Y6 will no longer have a Reading Solutions login, instead Year 6 will find their daily reading task on LBQ.
Year 5 will now have a reading solutions login. You will need to visit https://readingsolutionsuk.co.uk/ and login.
Your username and password will follow the same format – First name and Initial with the password ‘qwerty’.
For example ThomasD – qwerty
If you have a double barrelled surname i.e Tom Adams-Johnson
TomA - qwerty
You will need to complete an initial reading assessment the first time you log on. It is important you work hard for this task as it will determine the level of the texts you will be given in the future.
