This afternoon in Doves, we looked at understanding what SMSC is and how it is promoted and incorporated at The Gates.
We learnt that SMSC is an abbreviation for Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural.
We then looked at definitions for each of these:
Social - This involves the growth of a child's ability and their development of interpersonal skills.
Moral- This involves understanding the distinction between good and bad, right and wrong and the opportunity to express their own views.
Spiritual- This involves the growth of children's sense of self, their unique potential, strengths and areas for development.
Cultural- This involves understanding the cultural diversity in Britain and the wider world and how this influences individuals and society.
Using this information, we then discussed what activities/events we do in school which promotes these values.
