Swallows 17th June 2020 - Home Learning

Date: 17th Jun 2020 @ 8:00am

Good Morning Swallows!!!

Today’s learning:

Today we are starting to use a website called The Oak Academy. This website is a government site and on it they have put lots of links and ideas to support you at home. We have decided not to use the activities everyday, but wanted to use some of them on some days instead of LBQ. LBQ will be set on a Monday and Tuesday for all learning and also on a Friday.

As explained yesterday, there will be a mix of video clips from year 3 and 4. Sometimes the video clip will not be your year group but it’s all been carefully planned in so don’t worry.

I will set up a discussion feed for you to share any work which you complete using the Oak Academy. You could take a picture or screen shot the page then upload it if you wish.

Here are our tasks:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-recognise-parts-that-are-equal-and-parts-that-are-unequal

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/poetry-reading-comprehension-word-meaning

Other tasks

Don’t forget the other tasks on the discussion blogs. You can also use ixl to support any learning on The Oak Academy if you would like to.

Have a great day!

Doves - Home Learning - 17th June

Date: 16th Jun 2020 @ 9:54pm

Good morning everyone,

After feedback from parents, teachers and children – we have decided to freshen up our home learning routine. LBQ will still be used but less so than previously. In its place, we will be using National Oak Academy to provide online teaching which will provide more support to your children whilst providing a wider range of subjects. Daily links will be provided for all lessons. Once on the site, most lessons start with a quick introductory quiz, followed by a teaching video, followed by an activity and a recap quiz.

A discussion feed has been sent up to share the work from the previous day. If you are unsure of how this should look please look at yesterday's discussion feed (16.06.20) where Thomas, George and Leon submitted evidence of their work.

I have also attached their examples to this blog post to view. If you're working on a computer your easiest way is to use the 'snipping tool' located on your desktop programmes. This allows you to take a screenshot of your page and save the image which can then be uploaded.

If you're struggling with this, please make me aware so I can help! :)

Reading:

Year 5 will now have a reading solutions login. You will need to visit https://readingsolutionsuk.co.uk/ and login.

Site code: RPTHEGA

Your username and password will follow the same format – First name and Initial with the password ‘qwerty’.

For example ThomasD – qwerty

Well done to the following children for completing 2 comprehensions yesterday as set: Arwen, Chloe, Noah, Ava and Leon.

Well done to Oscar for completing 3 comprehensions.

All Year 5's please ensure you're accessing this daily!

Year 6 children please complete your LBQ reading task and a comprehension on Read Theory.

Well done to Amber and Thomas for completing their Read theory and LBQ!

Good Morning everybody!

I can't believe how fast this week is going!

You did really well with your challenges yesterday:

It's fantastic to see that you are all so engaged with this week's story!

Here are today's new challenges:

Challenge 1:

Superworm begins with the sound 's'
Can you see anything else around you that begins with the sound 's'?
Can you try and write the sound? We say 'slither down the snake' as we form our letter.
To challenge yourself even more: Draw some items that begin with the sound 's' and label them with the sounds that you can hear.

Challenge 2:

Have a great day!

Robins Class - School learning 16.6.20

Date: 16th Jun 2020 @ 3:30pm

Good Afternoon Robins,

We have been doing lots of fun things in school this week, look at tens and ones in maths and writing about emotions in English. We are looking at a book called' The Colour Monster' it is a great story.

This afternoon we have tested which material is best to make a superhero cape. We used four different materials and then dropped them from a height to see which one would work best. Felt was too heavy so fell quite fast but red foil fell quite slowly so this seemed to be the clear winner.

Keep it up with your home learning I am gathering some super Dad facts from the blog and some lovely purple mash art! Look out for the celebration of home learning post tomorrow!

Good morning Starlings!

Well done with getting off to a good start with your learning children. Lots of good work was completed on LBQ yesterday. I am really pleased.

Please read the following important information carefully about the next few weeks:

You may have noticed that there were quite a few tasks set yesterday on the discussion posts using The Oak Academy. We will be using this website on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from this week to set the learning tasks at home. You will still have LBQ tasks on a Monday and Tuesday. We hope that this will give you something new to try at home but still keep some of the consistency which we have built up using LBQ.

The tasks will be a mixture of Year 3 and Year 4 to allow us to continue to teach the teaching sequence which we have planned in order to cover the key learning for the next few weeks. Therefore some video clips will show Year 3 at the start and some will say Year 4. Please don’t worry if this is not your Year group. All the learning set is suitable and appropriate.

Today’s learning:

LBQ:  Use the code: ysb    (all lower case)

There are 3 tasks. Please complete all 3. If you get stuck on a question, read the advice given then try again. Read the questions carefully – this will help you!

Doves - Reading Changes

Date: 15th Jun 2020 @ 4:00pm

Hi Doves!

As previously mentioned in blog posts, the access to the reading websites have now changed.

Usernames and Passwords will be sent out for reference and there are examples of usernames and passwords found below.

Year 5 children will now use Reading Solutions.

Usernames: - Firstname+First initial of your surname e.g. (MissF) - Captital letters are required for the first initial of both names

Password: qwerty - no capital letters. You are able to change this if required when you log in.

Year 6 children will now start using Read Theory.

Usernames - firstname_surname1 e.g. miss_fairhurst1 (no capital letters required)

Password - doves123 (no capital letters required)

Y6 children you must complete the initial assessment. Please make sure you do that this week.

The expectation still remains the same.

All children MUST complete 5 comprehensions weekly. Not many children are doing this - it is important that you read and I will be tracking the number of comprehensions completed. Well done to those who always complete it :)

Thanks,

Miss Fairhurst
