Owls Home Learning 07.05.20

Date: 6th May 2020 @ 10:19pm

Good morning my little parsnips!

I hope you all had a good Wednesday!

I was working yesterday and had a lot of video meetings with other teachers. It was lovely to see them and chat about school - we all miss each other, just like you miss your friends!

In the 3 weeks since the Easter holidays, you've answered nearly 50,000 questions on IXL! I'm absolutely blown away by how hard you're all working whilst at home - you all deserve a big pat on the back!

Today's home learning is:

IXL - Maths - Addition - D18 and D20

IXL - English - Capitalisation - U1, U2, U3

Don't forget there are 2Dos set on Purple Mash and reading comprehensions on Read Theory.

Tomorrow is a bank holiday to celebrate VE Day. There will be no home learning set, but I will be revealing who is Owl Class star of the week!

I have been looking at your blogs today and it looks like there has been a lot of exciting learning taking place at home! Some of you have been baking (yum!) whilst others have been preparing for VE Day:

Have a wonderful extended weekend everyone! See you all on Monday.

Robins Class Home Learning - 7.5.20

Date: 6th May 2020 @ 8:42pm

Good Morning Robins smiley

It is another beautiful day, I am missing you all lots. I let the Guinea Pigs have a run around my living room yesterday, they found every possible hiding place they could. To get them back in their cage I had to lure them out from under an armchair using some cucumber, they enjoyed the run around though.

VE Fact of the Day

Buckingham Palace was lit up in floodlights for the first time in six years since the war began and two searchlights formed a V, the sign of peace above St Paul's Cathedral in London. All the lights were turned off again the next day.

I have received one VE Day factfile so far, from Dakota. It is excellent Dakota, I will be sharing it on Friday smiley

Today's home learning is as follows:

IXL

Maths – Year 2 – Subtraction Strategies - I.3, I.4

English - Nouns - M.7, M.8

Don’t forget there are 2Dos set on Purple Mash. Times Table Rockstars is also available too, it is great to see some of you improving your times tables knowledge. I’ve seen so many more of you on readtheory which is excellent. Keep aiming for one comprehension a day.

Blog Updates

More VE Day activities from one of you, this person was a busy bee yesterday. Designing bunting, creating a teacup, making a poppy and creating a flag.

Today phonics sound 'oe'

Have a great day everyone!

Eagles - 7th May - Home Learning

Date: 6th May 2020 @ 5:01pm

Good morning everyone!

The sun is back!!! I managed to do a bit of planting in the garden yesterday with Alexander which was nice - his control of the watering can needs a bit of work though! I have some plants floating in a pond now!

I also managed another run yesterday - that's Monday Tuesday, Wednesday this week! Hoping for another today!

What's everybody else been up to? Apart from getting beat by 5 by their younger brother on the maths task yesterday - mentioning no names! wink Has everyone seen my maths RAR? There were some great newspaper reports that came in yesterday! Well done to all!

Here's Joe's fantastic effort:

ThrowbackThursday! Can you guess who the member of staff is? Miss Fairhurst has posted a picture of a member of staff on the main blog page. Who is it??? Post your answer! Clue: It's not me!

There will be no home learning tasks set on Friday monring as it's a Bank Holiday so this will the the last learning set this week. I'd still be delighted to see any spelling & writing posted in the discussion feed, but if you can't on Friday (and if it's not ready today), I'll still look at them all on Monday!

Good Morning Woodpeckers!!

Welcome to a new week. I hope that you have all had a lovely weekend and are ready for a new week. Here is your learning for today:

Here are today’s tasks Woodpeckers:

LBQ – Code   mid   (all lowercase)

There are 3 tasks, please complete all 3 tasks. If you get stuck, read the information given.

Maths today is about finding the area of shapes. Area is the space inside a shape. You can find this by counting the squares or by multiplying the length by the width. Take a look at this clip:

Reading

Everyday I set you a reading task on LBQ. Over the week, complete one other task on Read Theory too.

Other Tasks

This week is all about VE Day and the 75th anniversary which is on Friday. Please see the discussion blogs to find out your topic, writing and spelling tasks for this week. PLEASE UPLOAD ANY WORK FROM THESE TASKS ONTO THE DISCUSSIONS RATHER THAN THE MAIN BLOG SO THAT YOU CAN ALL SEE EACH OTHERS AND THEY ARE KEPT IN ONE PLACE  😊

Date: 6th May 2020 @ 8:10am

Good Morning Swallows!!!

LOOK AT THIS! There have been some fantastic examples of design and improvisation that have already started flooding in from you wonderful children! Keep up that great effort and a great Roman phrase to start the day – another google experience with a little bit of research. ‘Carpe Diem’. Research it…

Take care and have a smashing day in the sunshine (hopefully!) …

Here are today’s learning tasks:

LBQ – Code: evb (all lowercase)

There are 3 tasks, please complete all 3 tasks. If you get stuck, read the feedback – remember it is ok to get it wrong, as long as you give the feedback a go Swallows. How else do we learn?

Kingfishers Home Learning 6th May

Date: 6th May 2020 @ 8:08am

Good morning everyone,

I've been informed that not everyone has been receiving my feedback/comments on SeeSaw and some people still cannot see the writing task or spellings. I think I have discovered the root of the problem so hopefully they should be visible at some point this morning.

1) Read theory

2) Times tables rockstars

3) LBQ code - pih

Maths - Addition and subtraction review

This task is going to challenge your judgement on when to use which method. It is always ideal to choose the most efficient method - which is quickest and easiest? Some will require written method and some are best done mentally.

The diagram below shows an efficient way of mentally solving 74 - 27.  We have taken away 30 (3 more than we should have taken) and then added that extra 3 to our answer. Remember that when adding using the same method, for example 74 + 27, you would add 30 and then subtract the extra 3

4) Written task -

Your weekly task is to write a newspaper report on VE day, on Monday you should have done a bit of research on VE day itself, today you can either start to plan your report or start to write a first draft (depending where you are up to). I understand that we might all be upto different points due to the technical issue on SeeSaw.

5) Afternoon topic web work - You can choose any topic from any any of the previous terms. Choose something that you are interested in and want to learn more about.

South American Stadium by Lucy

South American Parrot by Paige

Some sequin art by Isabell and Imogen

The topic webs should be on a previous blog post from the end of March if you need to find them again.

Have a great day everyone.

Penguins 6th May Home Learning

Date: 6th May 2020 @ 7:30am

Good morning penguins!

Our party preparations are coming on brilliantly, you are all working really hard.  Keep it up!

Maths

So now we have smashed halving we are going to look at the opposite of halving, doubling.

Doubling is when you add the same number 2 times.

Watch the video and have a go at doubling numbers 1 to 6.

If you are able to double using the objects confidently with numbers up to 10 then have a go at doubling using pictures.

Literacy

Today we are going to make some sandwiches for our party. I am going to make Jam sandwiches for my tea party so today I am going to write some instructions on how to make them.

Watch the video and then write some instructions on how to make your sandwich.

Challenge:  Can you record yourself making the sandwich telling us your step my step instructions?

We are going to play space race today.  Choose the sounds you need to work on when you play this game.  Remember to sound out each word carefully using your sound fingers!

Daily reminders:

  • Oxford owl reading
  • Purple Mash
  • Spellings
  • VE day activities

Don’t forget to upload your pictures on the blog so I can see what you have been doing.

Have a great day!

Puffin Class Home Learning 06.05.20

Date: 5th May 2020 @ 10:43pm

Hello Puffins!

We had a lovely day yesterday, we did some shadow drawings while it was sunny. Hope you  had a good day too!

Special Mentions

There has been some fabulous phonics and spellings on the blog from Harrison, this is great to see! I love how the abacus is supporting IXL learning on the ipad too. It’s a great resource to have, thank you for sharing these pictures. Finally, well done to Jacob B for an amazing poster that he has made with his family for VE day.

Today’s learning
IXL:
Maths Year 1 I.6, P10, F9

English Year 2  H.5, S.1, M.2

Please also complete activities on:
Read Theory

Writing task (see separate blog)

Purple Mash (I’m looking for some good work for the blog).

Spellings for the week in the discussion section (these link to the online phonics)

Phonics 'ew'

On the writing tasks we have noticed that the work doesn’t look as independent as it should. In class you get an example modelled to you and then you are expected to complete the task independently. It is really important that you make sure the writing is your own. Spelling mistakes are completely fine! We are looking for you applying your Phase 3 and 5 sounds and those tricky words too. Also, to be working towards the sucess criteria. The writing may look like this mini example below…

Dear Captn Tom,

Thank yoo for all the hard werk that yoo have dun to help the NHS. Yoo maik me veri prowd. I wont to be like yoo when I am owlder becos yoo are an inspirashon. I hope that yoo had a wunderful birthday. I carnt beleev that yoo are 100 years owld.

Yurs sinseerly,

Paul

I have my beady eye on Purple Mash for some super examples for the blog tomorrow. I can’t wait for some lovely surprises.

Have a lovely day,

Mrs Lenagan and Miss Thompson :)

Eagles - 6th May - Home Learning

Date: 5th May 2020 @ 5:20pm

Good morning everyone!

Well done to those of you that completed all the tasks set yesterday. For those of you in Miss Fairhurst's maths class, if you've not already seen it, I posted a video explaining q12 as it was answered incorrectly more than any other question. I also wanted to play with the screen recorder - so I've made another one for today's maths task! (click the blog title to see it).

There were a number of children who completed the SPAG tasks yesterday but not the maths task! Are you deliberately trying to upset me?? I might have to make a few phone calls home if this continues! Some of the effort on the maths tasks by some of you could also be improved - you know who you are! However, I was very impressed with Elisha, Ella, Sam and Jack W's efforts on the maths task 1 questions yesterday and Amy, who was the only person to score 20/20 correct first time, on maths task 2.

What's everybody been up to? It was great to hear from Ella & Olivia on the pupil blog section. More photo's and comments please! I've been going running quite a bit, but my knees aren't really enjoying it too much! Fancy having a bad hip and bad knees aged only 22!

Todays Home Learning:

  1. English - gxs
  2. Maths - ejv
  3. Reading Solutions - 1 comprehension (can do more than 1)
  4. Writing/Spellings - see discussion feed. Due Friday.
