Finding the Rhythm

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:48pm

In Music, we continued to learn the song ‘Make you feel my love’. We learnt about the terms: pulse, rhythm and pitch and found these by clapping the rhythm and copying the riffs on the Glockenspiel.

Lift Bridges

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:47pm

Yesterday, in Design and Technology we learnt all about lift bridges. We discussed the pros and cons of each before individually deciding which lift bridge we though would be the best in preventing flooding in areas. Following this, we also discussed how we might build this into our model through the use of CAMS.

In addition to this, we also began to assemble our bridges in pairs. We learnt how to saw safely and accurately to create the pieces needed to create a Truss Bridge.

Children in Need

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:47pm

Today, we came in our own clothes, donating a pound towards Children in Need.

We even had a Pudsey competition, where children from School council chose a winner from each class. Well done to all the entrants who completed different Pudsey related pictures and models.

Here is our winner holding a baked Pudsey cake.

Topic Homework

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:46pm

We have had four amazing pieces of homework handed in towards our topic web: information on a water borne disease, a graph showing the amount of rainfall over two weeks, a model of a bridge and research completed on the River Nile.

Features of prologue

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:45pm

To begin our new writing unit of Prologues, we worked in groups to identify the features and the purpose of each feature.

Rememberance Day

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:44pm

To commemorate and remember those who sacrificed, loved and lost during World Wars and recent conflicts, we planted our symbolic poppies in the garden at the front of school.

Lest We Forget.

We have another superstar reader who has completed Level C in reading solutions to progress up to the next level.

News Broadcasts

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:37pm

Doves class have been working extremely hard to produce a News Broadcast based on the sinking of the Titanic. Today, we wrote the middle ‘correspondent’ section. I can’t wait to read and watch the end outcomes.

Strengthening materials and structures

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:36pm

In DT we looked at how to strengthen materials and structures, through a range of challenges.
For our first challenge we needed to create a bridge out of paper which would with hold a toy car, we concluded that a concertina style would be sturdier due to the layers and the fact it is made up of triangles.
In our second challenge, the children were tasked with creating a square which was not flimsy. We learnt that this was impossible and discussed shapes which would have been stronger. We discussed how a triangle was stronger as it stabilises, supports and strengthens.

Fitness Challenge

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:35pm

Today, Doves worked hard to complete a range of fitness challenges. They worked on ten different exercises ranging from star jumps to planks. We worked for 30 seconds with a 30 second rest and completed 3 rounds! We then took part in a plank challenge at the end. All children showed amazing resilience.

Reading Solutions Success

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:34pm

Well done to these children who have worked extremely hard on Reading Solutions and successfully completed their levels.

Star of the week

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:33pm

Well done to our star of the week who has shown an amazing attitude to all aspects of school life.

Water Cycle

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:33pm

In topic, we started our unit, ‘what happens to a raindrop?’. To help us answer this question, we learnt all about the features of a water cycle, learning specific technical vocabulary before applying this when creating our own water cycle in a bag.

Inflatable Treat

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:32pm

As an extra special treat, children had the opportunity to play on an inflatable obstacle course.

Topic Homework

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:31pm

Another two pieces of Topic Homework: one demonstrating comparisons between ship liners and another modelling the rooms on the Titanic.

Star of the week

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:31pm

Well done to our Star of the Week who has showed an improved attitude to his learning.

Was or were?

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:30pm

As part of our SPAG activity in English today, we recapped our knowledge and understanding of ‘was and ‘were’ through a board game.

Four Goodness Sake

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:29pm

In Maths, to consolidate our learning of BIDMAS (understanding the order of operations) we took part in an investigation. We had to create the numbers 0-20 using a range of operations and using only the number 4, four times. It was challenging but the children showed a growth mindset.

World Book Day

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 9:48am

The children really enjoyed World Book Day, and with a little imagination were carried away to far off lands!

Playdough, Lego and Sacrifices

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 9:46am

In History today, Eagles Class played with Lego and Playdough! Not because the children dearly miss their days in EYFS, well not only that, but to learn about Ancient Maya settlements. Children constructed their own settlements, including pyramids, temples, plazas, ball courts and markets.

As well as this, children took part in a game of Pok-ta-Pok. They used only their forearms, thighs and hips to control the ball. The winning team (the ones who hit the ball into the hoop) would usually be rewarded by being sacrificed to the Gods; however, on this occasion we didn’t stick to tradition.

Modelling the Solar System

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 9:45am

Today in Science, we created a scale model of the Solar System. We began by recapping our knowledge of the planets from the previous week including their distances and sizes, before choosing which fruit represented the planet and comparing it with our peers.

Following on from this, we then worked in groups to work out a scale model – applying our mathematical knowledge.

Once we had accumulated all of the information, we began to create a scale model of the solar system demonstrating the distances.

Class Election

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 9:44am

PSHE

Building on last weeks learning about how laws are made, this week, Eagles Class held a Class Election.

4 Budding candidates shared their manifestos and key promises and then the class held a secret ballot.

Fortunately, all candidates ran a clean campaign, no horrible secrets from the past were unearthed and there was hardly any protesting! All 4 candidates could shake hands after the election.

Well done Eagles Class!

Sources of Evidence

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 9:43am

Today, Eagles learnt about different sources of evidence that can tell us about the past.

In small groups, children learnt what pictures, objects, buildings and writing can tell us about the Maya.

We followed this with a debate, arguing which source gives us the most information. Although the objects team had a strong argument, children acknowledged that looking at all four sources is key to learning about events from the past.
