Zoo Lab

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 9:11am

What a brilliant afternoon we have had! Alex from Zoo Lab came in today to show use some different animals. We saw a rat, plated lizard, tarantula, Madagascan hissing cockroach, snake and a giant African snail. The children all got a chance to touch the animals and hold some of them; they where very brave. They also asked lots of amazing questions.

Exploring water

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:57pm

Whilst outside this afternoon some children starting adding water to the guttering on the wall. They were fascinated how the water moved between the different gutters. But then there was a problem; the water was just falling on the floor! They then hunted to find things to catch the water and then recycled it by adding it to the top again!
I  wonder what would happen if we moved some of the guttering around?

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:56pm

One of our outside challenges this week as part of our Chinese New Year topic was to create a Chinese dragon. Today we decided to use the chalk to draw giant ones. Aren’t they fab?

Dinosaur discussion

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:54pm

Today we had a discussion about whether we would like dinosaurs to come back or not. This was a great discussion because the children used what they have learnt about dinosaurs to help them explain their yes and no answers.
We had comments such as “no, because they are so big they would break the school” and “no because they are carnivores and might eat us.” It was so brilliant to see them applying their learning.
pour dinosaur topic is definitely a great hit!

Ellie's weekend

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:52pm

Ellie has had a brilliant weekend! She went to the gym and even had a very special photo shoot!

Exploring sound

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:52pm

Some children were using the sticks outside knocking them against the fence. We then used this as an opportunity to see what sound we could make if we banged on different objects outside. We decided that different materials; plastic, metal, wood all make different sounds. They also tried hard to copy repeating patterns.

Measuring dinosaurs

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:51pm

We wanted to see how big the dinosaurs really were so we decided to measure them out using ourselves. We looked up lengths of different dinosaurs and then used our bodies to count out the lengths. We couldn’t believe how big they were! It also gave us a great opportunity to use language associated with size!

Dinosaurs

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:50pm

Dinosaurs have really hooked our interest this week! Look at some of the amazing dinosaur writing and drawing we have had! It has encouraged even some of more reluctant writers to lick up a pencil and draw and write!

Lizzie the Lizard

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:49pm

As part of our new topic this week we are learning about dinosaurs. We were learning about what a dinosaur was and that they are part of the reptile family. Lots of the children didn’t know what a reptile is so we went to get Lizzie Mrs Forshaw lizard. They loved meeting her and stroking her, think Lizzie enjoyed it too!
