Our blogs

Back to school

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:27am

We would like to say a massive thank you to all the parents who came in and joined in with our book bingo! It was great to see everyone engaged and having a great discussion about different books we have read!

Reading Buddies

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:23am

As part of World Book Day we loved having the chance to read to the children of  Robins class! It was especially fun to read to the children who had the same costumes as us!

Mini beast hunt

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:22am

Before dancing around the classroom though, we investigated the school grounds to find a range of mini beasts for us to classify. It’s fair to say the weather sent most into hiding but that didn’t stop us from trying.

Rocking Romans

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:20am

This afternoon marked the start of our singing rehearsals ready for our upcoming production! Our song is coming together and the children have choreographed some great dance moves!

Food webs

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:19am

In science we have been learning about food webs, therefore we made a massive human food web within our class room to show how all the animals in a mountainous forrest are linked. By removing just one plant, 14 out of 16 plants and animals died, showing why humans needs to start being more responsible!

Money, money, money

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:19am

In maths we have started a new topic all about money, so today we investigated coins and thought of different ways we can make certain amounts.

Raging Romans

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:18am

As part of our afternoon topic, Starlings invaded Chester to learn all about where the Romans settled. We explored lots of old artefacts before marching round the city in formation and signing up to the Roman army for the next 25 years!

Family afternoon

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:18am

We have had a fantastic time with our families this afternoon making Halloween crafts.

Money makes sense

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:17am

Today we were lucky enough to have some visitors from NatWest come into class and teach us how to be sensible with our money and how to set up our own businesses. They were very impressed with some of the children’s money saving ideas!

Making Mosiacs

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:10am

In art this term we have been researching and designing our very own Roman mosaics. Although we didn’t quite finish they all look fantastic so far! The children really thought about their patterns and how to use some cut and broken tiles to make them look more authentic.

Smelly Science

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:09am

This week we investigated how our digestive system actually works by getting our hands dirty! We slowly followed the journey our food takes, identifying all the main organs and their roles as we did so.

Teeth Test

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:08am

In Science we have been learning all about the digestive system and we have discovered that teeth play a vital role in this, therefore we need to really look after them. Today we planned and carried out an experiment to see which liquids cause the most damage to our teeth, using eggs as a representation. Hopefully next week we will see some definitive results!

Home Acheivements

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:08am

We have been very busy outside of the classroom in Starlings. It has been fantastic to listen to some of the stories behind these awards, very proud of you all!

Why don’t we know much about the Indus Civilisation?

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:07am

In R.E we are starting our new topic all about the Indus Civilisation, however even to this day a lot of the information we have about them is incomplete. To evidence how evidence can become tainted over time to become unreliable we played Chinese Whispers. It is fair to say we realised how easy it is for evidence to become unreliable especially via word of mouth.

Reading Challenge winner

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:06am

Well done for reading 4 times this week. Enjoy your new book!

Back in the land of the munchkins

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:06am

On our first day back after a much needed break we were all treated to a fabulous Wizard of Oz pantomime! The children were really engaged and loved joining in with the show!

Perfection presentation

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:05am

All term in Starlings we have been trying our best to improve our presentation in all of our work. There have been some massive, massive improvements over the last 15 weeks and all our hard work is starting to pay off! Congratulations to the whole class, especially to those who have received a Pen license!

Christmas Cool-down

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:04am

It is very important to do a warm up and cool down according to Mr.Maddens, and after a term of working our brains to their absolute limits we had a festive cool down in class led by Mr. Poppy

Excitable Edgar

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:03am

This morning we wanted to show off our amazing writing so we took a short trip to Robins on our tour of KS1. The stories on offer were fantastic and I am really proud of the work the children have produced!

Masterchefs

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:02am

This afternoon we made plenty of mess showing off our fabulous baking talents, following WW2 recipes! Can’t wait to taste these next week!

Music Maestros

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:01am

This afternoon we have been writing and performing our very own original WW2 songs using lots of technical vocabulary. They sounded absolutely amazing especially for one afternoons work!

Performing Poem

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 9:00am

This week we concluded our poetry topic by performing to the whole class! We helped to give constructive feedback on a range of poems, from Acrostic to Hiakus, and used some fantastic expression to set the tone!

Christmas Computing

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:59am

We all produced some fantastic Christmas cards on the computer using a range of techniques!

Soundproofing Science

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:58am

This afternoon we carried out an experiment to find out which material we should use to soundproof our classroom so that we do not disturb anyone else’s learning whilst we practice our homemade instruments!

The Blitz

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 8:57am

Over the last few months we have been learning all about WW2. Recently we have been learning all about the Blitz and why children needed to be evacuated. Before the evacuations happened though, Children often had to hide in Anderson Shelters.

As a result, whenever we hear the siren in class we must take cover in the nearest shelter we have and keep as quiet as possible. The air raid warden ensure we are following the black-out procedures before sheltering themselves!
