Dinosaur discussion

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:54pm

Today we had a discussion about whether we would like dinosaurs to come back or not. This was a great discussion because the children used what they have learnt about dinosaurs to help them explain their yes and no answers.
We had comments such as “no, because they are so big they would break the school” and “no because they are carnivores and might eat us.” It was so brilliant to see them applying their learning.
pour dinosaur topic is definitely a great hit!

Ellie's weekend

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:52pm

Ellie has had a brilliant weekend! She went to the gym and even had a very special photo shoot!

Exploring sound

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:52pm

Some children were using the sticks outside knocking them against the fence. We then used this as an opportunity to see what sound we could make if we banged on different objects outside. We decided that different materials; plastic, metal, wood all make different sounds. They also tried hard to copy repeating patterns.

Measuring dinosaurs

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:51pm

We wanted to see how big the dinosaurs really were so we decided to measure them out using ourselves. We looked up lengths of different dinosaurs and then used our bodies to count out the lengths. We couldn’t believe how big they were! It also gave us a great opportunity to use language associated with size!

Dinosaurs

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:50pm

Dinosaurs have really hooked our interest this week! Look at some of the amazing dinosaur writing and drawing we have had! It has encouraged even some of more reluctant writers to lick up a pencil and draw and write!

Lizzie the Lizard

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:49pm

As part of our new topic this week we are learning about dinosaurs. We were learning about what a dinosaur was and that they are part of the reptile family. Lots of the children didn’t know what a reptile is so we went to get Lizzie Mrs Forshaw lizard. They loved meeting her and stroking her, think Lizzie enjoyed it too!

Subtraction smash!

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:41pm

This week we have introduced subtraction to our reception Penguins. We have looked at the different language we use and also what it means. Using playdough we have made different amounts of balls and then had to smash some to represent the amount we were taking away! They loved this activity and the learning and language taking place was brilliant! Well done Penguins!

Stay and play

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:40pm

What a lovely afternoon we had yesterday at our Reception stay and play. The children loved having their grown ups here to show their learning and also to teach their grown ups how we do things in Penguin class.
Thank you to all the parents that came and for all your positive feedback.

We look forward to seeing our Nursery parents on Wednesday at 2.30.

Diwali Snack

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:37pm

To help us celebrate and enhance our learning about Diwali we had a Diwali themed snack. We enjoyed tasting onion bhajis, pakoras, samosas, popadoms and mango chutney. Whilst we were trying the food we talked about how it tasted and what we liked. Below are some of the fan comments the children made.

“I’ve had one at a restaurant before”

“I don’t like it because it’s spicy “

“This is yummy”

“These are nice (samosas) I eat these at home a lot. “

“I’ve had popadoms before at my house with a roast dinner.”

“My favourite was the samosa”

“My mum makes lots of spicy food”

“I like these because it’s fruity”

“I like this. My grandma makes them.”

“It tastes like peas.”
