Hello Penguins,

We have started to get our classrooms ready for you and we would love to have something that would make you feel at home when you start. With this in mind, today's challenge is to take a photograph of you and your family so that we can put it on a display in school. These will NOT go on our blog. It will be something to find in class on your first day and something to bring comfort incase you are feeling worried like the Colour Monster did in our stories. Good luck with your last challenge.

Have a lovely day!

Mrs Jarrett, Mrs Lenagan and the EYFS Team :)

Reception new starter challenge

Date: 14th Jul 2020 @ 6:05pm

Good morning Reception!

I hope you are all having a good week and enjoyed the Colour Monster Goes To School book.  It has been really lovely to see your challenges coming in that you have been doing at home, well done Penguins.

Your challenge this week is:

Can you be a creative Colour Monster? Talk to your grown-up, make or draw a feelings jar and discuss what makes you feel that way. For example, feeling love is a big cuddle, sharing, kindness, playing a game and stroking a pet. You could draw pictures in to show these moments.

We can't wait to see your replies. Please send them back to office@thegates.bolton.sch.uk and put Reception new starters in the subject.

Good morning Penguins,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.  Your colour monsters have been brilliant and really creative, well done everyone!

This week we are going to continue to look at the colour monster but he is about to go on a realy exciting adventure. His adventure is just like the one you are about to go on; starting school.

Watch the video of the story, then talk to your grownup about starting school; what are you looking forward to about starting school? What are you going to choose to do when you first come to school?

Reception New Starter Story Time

Date: 5th Jul 2020 @ 10:34am

Good morning Reception,

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend, I have been on some rainy walks with my children this weekend and found some big puddles to jump in with our wellies on!

Our story this week is The Colour Monster, which is a story all about feelings. Starting school is a really exciting time but it can also be a little bit scary and make us feel a little worried, which is absolutely normal!

Watch the story with your grown up and then spend some time talking about different feelings, what makes you feel happy?  When have you felt sad?  How do you feel about starting Reception?

Enjoy the story, I will post a challenge linked to the story on Wednesday.

Date: 23rd Jun 2020 @ 7:38pm

Hi everybody,

It's Mrs Jarrett, one of the teachers in your new Penguin class.  I can't wait to get to know you all more and find out more about you.  I will be posting lots of blogs with stories and activities you can do at home so please keep checking back.

Today I have added the story of the Gruffalo; this is one of my favourite stories, I love reading it to my own children. After you have watched the story, can you think of what your favourite food is?  Is it scrambled snake, roasted fox, owl icecream or even Gruffalo crumble? My favourite food is yummy fruit salad.

I hope you enjoy the story.
