Hello Puffins!

We had a lovely day yesterday, we did some shadow drawings while it was sunny. Hope you  had a good day too!

Special Mentions

There has been some fabulous phonics and spellings on the blog from Harrison, this is great to see! I love how the abacus is supporting IXL learning on the ipad too. It’s a great resource to have, thank you for sharing these pictures. Finally, well done to Jacob B for an amazing poster that he has made with his family for VE day.

On the writing tasks we have noticed that the work doesn’t look as independent as it should. In class you get an example modelled to you and then you are expected to complete the task independently. It is really important that you make sure the writing is your own. Spelling mistakes are completely fine! We are looking for you applying your Phase 3 and 5 sounds and those tricky words too. Also, to be working towards the sucess criteria. The writing may look like this mini example below…

Dear Captn Tom,

Thank yoo for all the hard werk that yoo have dun to help the NHS. Yoo maik me veri prowd. I wont to be like yoo when I am owlder becos yoo are an inspirashon. I hope that yoo had a wunderful birthday. I carnt beleev that yoo are 100 years owld.

Happy Tuesday Puffins!

At our house, we have been painting some rocks that we found during our exercise. Then, on our daily walk, we have hidden them to try to make people smile and bring some hope and positivity to our community. We hope you like them. I did a rainbow one and it was great fun!

Special Mentions

You have blown my socks off Puffins! Well done to everyone accessing IXL you’ve exceeded 30 000 questions answered. An extra special mention to our Top 5 children that IXL have flagged with some amazing scores on the leader board!

I was smiling so much that my face hurt today too, it was through seeing such wonderful phonics work from lots of children on the blog. You are working so hard and growing your brains. This work is super hard and you are doing so well with it.

I also loved to see that Elias has been trying to make people smile in this community by painting rocks too. Great minds Elias! Also, we have another Puffin star who always tries so hard in his work, showing us his scooting skills.

Hello Lovely Puffins,

Hope you have had a great weekend. The weather hasn’t been all that good so at my house we made some cakes. They were very tasty. Do you like them? What have you done?

Special Mentions

Last week ended so well with the Star of the Week and the Golden Book nominations! Well done again to Casey for being last weeks star and to Shane and Cullen for their nominations in the Golden Book. It was a lovely surprise to find out that Mrs Forshaw had chosen Cullen for the Head teacher’s award! It has got me thinking, who will it be next week? We’ve got our eyes on the blog, IXL and Purple Mash. Watch this space...

When I checked the blog last night, I was super impressed with Jacob and Jack’s letters to Captain Tom. Well done boys. Joseph has done some great work that his Auntie has sent him. I wonder if you will be making a time capsule? It is also lovely to see one of our Puffins busy with lego and reading to teddy bears.

I have noticed a decrease in the views of the phonics. It is so important that you keep watching and joining in our phonics sessions. This is why I am taking the time to record the tutorials online for you. If you can learn all the sounds from Phase 5 and read with them and write with them, then you will have a perfect starting point for Year 2. Keep up your good work! I can see some fabulous results in spellings too which is all linked.

Have a lovely day, I'm  looking forward to checking the blog later!

KS1 Writing Task - VE Day factfile w/c 4.5.20

Date: 3rd May 2020 @ 2:55pm

On Friday we will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day. A blog was posted on Friday to detail some activities that you could do this week as part of the celebrations.

For this week's writing task we are asking you to make a fact file about what VE Day is and why we celebrate it. Now I know we have not really written many fact files so I have, as usual, attached an example of this below and a success criteria.

The task is set on Purplemash, but you can present it in any way you wish, be this through a poster, a handwritten factual leaflet, a word document, a powerpoint etc. Please include any photos of your finished product so that they can be displayed on the blog.

Example

I am sure you can include more facts, each day this week I plan to post one fact about VE Day, you are welcome to use these facts to complete your fact file. This is also a great website to look at based on the day

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/48201749

Success Criteria – VE Day Fact file

I have included a title

I have included facts (aim for at least 5)

I have included sub-headings

I have organised my writing into paragraphs

My facts make sense to the reader

I have included good vocabulary

I have used capital letters and full stops

We look forward to seeing your finished product.

VE Celebrations – WB 4.5.20

Dear Parents,

Next week marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day and despite not being in school, we would still like to be able to celebrate this with the children.

It would be brilliant if at home you could have a tea party or a picnic on Friday as a special celebration on this day. Some streets are planning a ‘Stay at home street party’.

At home, it would be great if your child could make a VE Day t shirt (decorate a plain t shirt using felt tips of fabric paint) which they can wear to their own VE Day tea party/picnic.

Here are some ideas for your child to complete at home if they would like to. If you do complete any of these activities, we would love you to share them with us on the blog.

While the children were having a play I checked the blogs and IXL and I am now super proud of everyone and you will see why below.

Mrs Lenagan's Online Phonics Tutorials

Mrs. Lenagan’s Phonics Tutorials

There will now be 4 online tutorials per week, covering 4 different sounds from Phase 5 which is what the children were working on in school before the closure. These are designed to be active sessions for children join in with, similar to what they did in school. The children only need a piece of paper, a pen/pencil and a grown-up to sit next to them for support. The role of the adult is to check for correct letter formation (cursive print), support with segmenting and blending of words and support the sentence application at the end. All of which will all be explained and guided throughout. Each week, spellings will be set for year 1 children based on the sounds learned and will include the common exception words (full lists of CEW can be found on class pages on the blog).

Search: Phase 5 'ay' Mrs Lenagan

Or follow the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSo25jhnoII&t=266s

Please feel free to leave a comment, blog any work on School Spider and re-watch as many times as necessary, until the children know and can use the sounds. There are also explanations of online follow up games that can be used on tablets, phones and computers to apply the learning from the tutorial.

There will be a new link on class blogs Monday to Thursday for the latest tutorial.

Do you have any pets at home? We would love to hear about them.

Reading

Oxford Owl, the company that we use for our home reader books have made a number of books available online whilst schools are closed. Please follow the link below.

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Children can then chose which book band colour they are on using the ‘levels’ tab.

The click on ‘book band’.

You may need to sign up to the website to access some of the books.

This is a great opportunity for children to continue their reading journey with books that are age and topic appropriate.

Hello Puffins!
I hope you have all had a lovely, relaxing Easter. I watched lots of films, ate chocolate Easter eggs
and did some Easter crafts. We made pictures using things we found in our garden and baked bunny
cookies.

We would love to hear what you have been up to. Please post comments and pictures on the pupil
blogs, Mrs Lenagan and I really enjoy reading them.

During this time, it is so important that you stay positive, keep busy and carry on with your learning,
even though sometimes it can be tough. You are all superstars and we are so proud to be your
teachers. To brighten everyone’s day here is a video for you all to enjoy. Make sure you dance and
sing along - it will help you with today’s tasks :) https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/ks1-
