Robins - Digital Citizenship

Date: 2nd Nov 2020 @ 7:45pm

Robins have worked incredibly hard over our first term learning all about digital citizenship during our Computing Lessons.

We have learned how to keep safe whilst using the Internet through a variety of activities. We used programmes such as 2connect to display ideas and concepts related to how we use the internet.

We also used 2email on purplemash to send emails to eachother in the class. We discussed how this was a safe platform as purplemash is managed and moderated by teachers at our school. However, we discussed how other email platforms are not as saf.

We discussed how to recognise real and fake posts on blogs and other platforms. We discussed what to look out for and how we must be careful what information we share on the internet. Super work Robins!

Robins - Anti-Bullying assembly

Date: 13th Oct 2020 @ 4:01pm

For our KS1 assembly this week, we have been discussing what bullying means and how we can make sure that there is no bullying in our school. This links to our SMSC by discussing our morals and ways we can be a good citizen.

"I pledge to be kind"

"I pledge to not be a bystander"

We made a pledge to stop bullying as a class and we wrote different ways that we could do that on our handprint.

Well done Robins!

This little superstar is an absolute pleasure to have in class. She has felt anxious sometimes about coming to school but she has started to come in with a beautiful smile and a fantastic positive attitude to learning. She always follows instructions and tries her best to complete her tasks to the best of her ability.

Well done Robins superstar!

Robins - Eric Carle Collage

Date: 6th Oct 2020 @ 3:48pm

Today, we have been creating our own insects using Eric Carle's collage technique. We used different skills such as folding, cutting, tearing and crumpling to make different textures.

Look at our amazing creations!

Robins - Role play area

Date: 5th Oct 2020 @ 4:24pm

In Science today, we enjoyed doing some cross curricular work in our role play area. We used scientific vocabulary and our knowledge of habitats to discuss where animals in the UK may live. Then we stuck pictures of animals on the map.

We enjoyed extending our vocabulary by using words such as "adapted" and "habitat"

Well done Robins!

Robins - Star of the week

Date: 3rd Oct 2020 @ 9:02pm

Well done to this superstar Robin for winning star of the week.

She has demonstrated excellent resilience this week, never allowing a task to beat her and always doing her best to learn from her mistakes. Additionally, she is a kind hearted and helpful friend to her peers. She often supports her peers and uses her initiative to complete little odd jobs around the classroom. Very well deserved this week!

Miss Dooley and Mrs Penman

Date: 29th Sep 2020 @ 3:50pm

Robins have had lots of fun this afternoon using our collage skills to recreate an Eric Carle picture of "The Hungry Caterpillar."

Some children even cut out their own shapes to create their pictures.

Robins - Outdoor Art

Date: 15th Sep 2020 @ 3:55pm

Hello Robins,

What a fantastic, creative, busy day we have had today! I am incredibly proud of how sensible you all were in the outdoor area today.

In Art this year, we are exploring collage and using Eric Carle as a model for this. Today, we explored our outdoor area and looked at all the different habitats we have. We had a go at sketching some for our art sketchbooks.

Excellent effort Robins! I can't wait to see your Eric Carle inspired collages later in the term.

You have blown my socks off today with your super number bonds knowledge. We had lots of fun splitting the counters to make 10 in different ways. Some children even moved on to making 20!

Some super social work through team work. This has linked well to our whole school SMSC approach.

Well done Robins!

We have had a fantastic start to the year in Robins class. We have had lots of fun team building and learning all about each other.

Today, we had a very special lesson all about SMSC (Social, moral, spiritual and cultural) values at The Gates. We used our super social skills to discuss with our talk partners how we use SMSC skills and knowledge in our every day learning at The Gates.

I am very proud of you Robins! Look at the fantastic work we have done.

Robins New Class Blog - 17.07.20

Date: 17th Jul 2020 @ 8:48am

Happy Friday Robins!

I can't believe this is the last blog I am writing to you. It has been a lovely two weeks and I feel like I have gotten to know some of you so well through your transition work. I know some of you may be a little nervous or worried about September and some of you may be incredibly excited. I have to say, that I am feeling a mixture of both. As I said on my zoom calls to some of you, when I start to feel those nervous butterflies in my belly, I think of all of the exciting learning that we will be doing next year and those nervous butterflies turn into excited butterflies!

Well done to Poppy and Harriet who described their memories so beautifully yesterday. I have attached these into our image gallery below. I know we will make so many more wonderful memories together next year.

Daily task

Your final transition task, is to make a summer bucket list. Can you write a list of all the exciting adventures you would like to get up to over the summer holidays? When you have completed your adventures, you can tick each individual adventure off. Here are some examples to help you.

Have a wonderful Summer robins. I can't wait to hear all about your adventures and meet you all as you enter my classroom door with huge, smiling year one and two faces!

SPORTS WEEK RESULTS........

Date: 14th Jul 2020 @ 9:48am

I have counted up the overall scores for this years Home Olympics. The results were very close, so many of you took part and there were some amazing scores from pupils and parents across the school. The overall winners have been decided on the class which had the highest participation from its pupils.

This years winners are....

Well done to Mr Simpson and his new Eagles class!

Fifa Forum Tournament (9) — FIFA Forums

Some indiviudal winners include -

Well done to everyone who took part - you all posted excellent scores and it is important to take into consideration to range of ages across school. Use it as motivation to train and try even harder for next time. If you are somebody who feels disappointed when you do not win, remember that it is OK to feel this way. What is important is how you react to this. You should always show dignity in defeat, congratulate the winner or winners and use your disappointment to motivate you next time. Every single professional athlete will have experienced defeat at some point in their life, especially in their younger years, and if you ask many of them they will tell you how much losing can help motivate them to succeed in the future.

Hello Robins!

Happy Tuesday!

I have had an exciting day in school today saying hello to some of your lovely faces and I have had some lovely conversations with your parents on the telephone too. I have had a messy evening baking some cakes with my daughter today. Her favourite part is licking the spoon. I bet some of you would agree with that!

Celebrations

Well done to Harriet and Phoenix for their excellent outdoor area designs. I sense some budding project managers in our midst. I will even suggest some of your amazing ideas to Mrs Forshaw.

Daily task

Today's task is a bit of a funny one! If you were an animal, what would you look like? You might have the neck of a giraffe, the head of a lion and the feet of a penguin. How funny would that look? You can present your idea however you like. Here is my idea:

I used this website and you can too!

https://switchzoo.com/zoo.htm

You could also copy or print this worksheet to help you. You could even add a name to your animal and some facts too.

Have lots of fun!

Hello Robins!

GIF bird robin animation - animated GIF on GIFER

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. It was lovely and sunny so I went to a park with my daughters. We got a delicious ice cream and played on the swings and the slide. There was even a pond, can you spot any animals that may live near a pond in our photo. Which other animals do you think could live in a pond?

Celebration of work

Your cooking on Friday brought a big smile to my face. Well done to these little creative chefs! I am very proud.

A huge well done to these Robins who completed their Lockdown projects last week too. I am so impressed and I can’t wait to display them on our Lockdown display in September.

Daily task

One of my favourite things to do is explore and go on adventures in the outdoors. We are incredibly lucky at The Gates because we do lots of practical outdoor learning.

Your task for today is to design the perfect outdoor area for school and add some labels. Perhaps you would like a pond, a camp fire, a new climbing frame or a climbing wall? I can’t wait to see your ideas.

Have a lovely day Robins.

HEALTH AND FITNESS WEEK DAY 5

Date: 10th Jul 2020 @ 8:40am

Today will be our last day of the Virtual Health and Fitness Week - in my opinion it's the best one yet. I would like to start by thanking all of you who participated and challenged yourself this week. I have honestly been blown away by how many people participated this week and I hope that you have all had fun. Hopefully, some of you may have taken something from this week that has inspired you to try and make every week a Health and Fitness week in the future!

Activities for today

1) Let's get warmed up with a 5 minute workout from Joe.

If you are feeling an extra challenge - you could try one of his full workouts on the link below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5DlVnxLjk

2) Activity Bingo - today is your last day to finish the activity bingo - can you get gold?

3) Balloon Tennis -

Challenge someone in your house to a game of balloon tennis! I used two chairs and tied a piece of string to make a net. If not, a piece of string, ribbon, scrunched up t-shirt etc. would do the job! Try not to let the balloon land on your side of the 'net'!

Extra challenge - tie an old rag or dishcloth into a knot and use that as a slightly heavier 'ball'. You could use an even heavier pair of socks for an even harder challenge!

Water Bucket Shuttle Run

I saw this idea on Twitter and thought this would be great fun. Get two buckets, one empty and one full. Place them at opposite ends of the your garden. See how much water can you transport to the other in 5 minutes. Measure the water you have transported at the end and let me know how you got on - I am going to give this a go tomorrow! (A bit of Maths involved in there for you too Mr Simpson!)

@PEStJamesNN5 PE challenge with wather and sponge made Wiktor very tired and excited;););) Enjoyed so much !!! pic.twitter.com/l6Sg1Tiiqo

Home Olympics - Final Event

In my opinion - the hardest yet! They may look simple but this is a very tiring activity which will test your core stregth and stamina. This is a core activity that many professional athletes do daily to help keep them super fit and healthy.

The task is to see how many you can do in one minute.

Have a rest in between and try this 3-5 times to see how high you can get your score!

There will be a survey sent out on School Spider later today to submit your final scores for the week. Then we can see which class has won this years Home Olympics!

Have a great day everyone. I hope you enjoy the activities planned. Send in your pictures and videos for me to check out and repost.

Hopping Robin Animation by Red-Clover on DeviantArt

I can't believe we are coming to the end of our first week completing transition activities together. I have had so much fun getting to know you all. I have also completed all of our zoom transition meetings with Mrs Penman and Mrs Anderton and it was a pleasure to see all of your wonderful, smiling faces. I am incredibly excited to meet you all in September!

Figure me out celebrations

I was so impressed with all of your "Figure me out" fact files. Here are some of your super facts:

Well done to Poppy, Harriet and Phoenix!

Another celebration

After reading on the Puffins blog this morning that this future Robin had completed his monster phonics books so beautifully, I just had to mention him on our blog! Well done little superstar, you are certainly ready to move into Robins class.

Weekly task

Another quick reminder of your weekly task "What I did on Lockdown!". I am really excited to see your creative projects on what you did on lockdown on display in our classroom. Make sure you post your amazing projects on your blogs so I can put them up on our lovely display, ready for September.

Daily transition task

Today, I would like to see you get creative in the kitchen. You can choose whatever, recipe, dish, anything you would like to make in the kitchen. Here are some pictures of me and my daughter making a healthy smoothie snack a few weeks ago.

I am looking forward to seeing your exciting culinary masterpieces!

Health and Fitness Week

I have been so impressed with all of your exercising on your blogs. I hope you have enjoyed health and fitness week as much as I have! I think my favourite activity so far was the Bollywood dancing. What was yours? I'm looking forward to seeing your bingo cards at the end of the week. Has anybody managed to complete their card?

This weekend is supposed to be lovely and sunny so don't forget your sun cream and make sure you blog any exciting activities you get up to in the sunshine. I am hoping that me and my family can have a nice trip to the seaside so look out for my lovely pictures of our adventures.
