LKS2 Assembly - What is bullying?
Due to the upcoming National Bullying Awareness week, Swallows undertook an assembly to discuss what we know, and share our thoughts on bullying. The children took a really mature stance to this topic and there were some outstanding responses to what bullying is and how some of us have been affected by it. Here are some of our responses:
'I think bullying is really nasty behaviour to someone or something for a long time'
'I think it is when someone does something naughty to make someone feel bad'
'It is being mean to someone for a long period of time'
Well done Swallows, this was a real pleasure to teach and be a part of, keep it up!

Swallows have been at it again...
The children have been working hard this week in PE to improve their stamina. Today with Tom, our FUNDA rep in school, the children were learning about how to be that little bit more resilient through games and skills based learning, mainly through team games. The children have also been testing themselves to beat last weeks times they set as part of our Bolton Schools 'Virtual Mile'. Keep it up Swallows, your resilience is shining through!

School Council Elections -
Lower Key Stage 2 have held their elections this week! The children produced some fantastic written speeches which were read and spoken so very well. The teachers were extremely proud of the way the children committed themselves and there were some extremely talented and very honest individuals. Some of these could have easily made it to parliament! Well done to all who put themselves forward.

Well, where do I start!!??
Swallows produced some outstanding learning this week, working hard to solve tricky problems and 'hunt' for hidden creepy-crawleys that lurk in the bushes of our school! We had fun collecting evidence from text's together, while discussing 'World Rivers Day' as part of our reading comprehension. The children rounded off this week's learning with an exercise of 'mark-making' using Henri Rousseau-inspired colours. Well done again with superb learning Swallows, keep it up!
Date: 1st Oct 2020 @ 4:47pm

Date: 1st Oct 2020 @ 3:48pm
This morning, we discussed our Big Question for the week, 'How is peace achieved around the world?'
Swallows made a great start with this on Thursday, answering this using their own experiences of peace. We discussed what peace is and the difference between this personally and on an international level in terms of conflict and war.
Throughout our debate, the children were mindful of others feelings and respected just how we all feel peace can be something to work towards, particularly in today's society.
Here are some of our responses:
- Peace is achieved by talking a discussing problems.
- I achieve peace by being calm and reading books.
- I think peace needs to be achieved by solving problems together and talking

Swallows have taken part in this weeks 'Virtual Mile' this afternoon. We used some of our learning in PSHE this week to push ourselves to the limit! Everyone of the children took part with real eagerness to achieve and made some fantastic times whilst completing our laps. Great effort team Swallows, you really made us proud with the teamwork and encouragement of each other!

Super effort from all of Swallows today with their musical learning. The children discussed what music meant to them and attempted to come up with some definitions of what music is. Well done with some wonderful practice of songs and harmonies, voices to be proud of!

Happy Monday Swallows!
This week has been an enlightening experience for the children of Swallows. We have undertaken some tricky problems in Maths using Base 10 to solve place value questions. We have studied the book of Genesis in RE and used Venn and Caroll diagrams in Science to classify animals.
The children throroughly enjoyed the investigation side of their learning and worked well with partners. Well done Swallows, keep it up!

What a wonderful afternoon! Swallows spent the afternoon studying the Christian story of creation. We discussed the teachings from the Book of Genesis, taken from The Bible, and shared the ideas that we feel make our world special. We explored the outdoors and had a moment of reflection to think about all the 'wonders of the world'. The children shared some wonderful thoughts on friends and family, school life and climbing trees! Superb effort Swallows!
Date: 12th Sep 2020 @ 8:37am
What a super week we have had in class! We created our own welcome signs for the children in our school that speak different languages, researched our chosen autheor, Michael Morpurgo and completed our first assessments of our fantastic Maths skills! All in a weeks work for a great team and we are really proud of your efforts with new routines, the new layout of school and the way you followed new rules. Keep up the great effort all, you deserve the rest this weekend brings!
We even had a wonderful birthday treat!

What can I say? What a day, filled with new routines and lots of information! I cannot thank you enough for how you all handled the day and the work you produced was incredible! You have certainly remembered so much from Year 2 (supported so well by parents and family at home!)
I was incredibly impressed with your attitudes to learning and your resillience when performing our new daily 'Physical Challenge' - a huge high five to you all! Keep up the great effort, it was wonderful to see 28 smiling faces and a room filled with children's laughter once again!

We’re all going on a …. Swallows holiday!!!
Happy Friday children!
Today is our last day before the holidays. It has been a real privilege to get to know some of you in a very different way! Some of the work you have produced is unbelievable and I am immensely proud already! I knew your previous teachers of Miss Whalley, Miss Woodward and Mrs Handley were right when they said you were very dedicated to your learning! Thanks for all the superb effort, keep up the support of each other and we are raring to go for September!
Today is the final challenge and we’re going to ask you to be creative again and use your imagination. Please draw a black dot about the size of a £2 coin on a piece of blank paper. Now we want you to turn this dot into some art. I have attached some images to give you an idea but we would love to see what you can come up with. What will your dot become? Don’t forget to blog your creations!
Have a great day and have the most amazing summer. We can’t wait to see you in September, keep shining brightly!

Nice to see you, to see you nice Swallows!!!
Your work yesterday was amazing Swallows, you have all worked so hard. It made me quite emotional at this time of year and it has been lovely to speak to some of your wonderful parents so far children. I will be contacting more of your families again today to see if there are any question before September. Keep going, today is the penultimate day (word of the day alert!) – make sure it is a cracker whether you are out walking, chatting or playing, make sure to have fun!
Today we would like you to make an imagination portrait. In the bottom right hand corner, draw or stick a picture of yourself. Then, draw a cloud and inside it sketch all the things that you can imagine. The pictures can be anything! What do you like to think about? Do you have any special places or people in your mind that you could draw? Take a look at this image for a few more ideas...
Don’t forget to blog them so that we can see your wonderful work. We would love to display these in September too so keep them somewhere safe for when we return. Enjoy your day...
Caio for now all!

Its another Wednesday Swallows!

Don’t forget to blog your work once it’s finished for us to see, we can’t wait to see them! Let's finish this year on an absolute high and carry each other (including me!) across the finish line just like the Brownlee bothers below!

I have counted up the overall scores for this years Home Olympics. The results were very close, so many of you took part and there were some amazing scores from pupils and parents across the school. The overall winners have been decided on the class which had the highest participation from its pupils.
This years winners are....
Well done to Mr Simpson and his new Eagles class!
Some indiviudal winners include -
Well done to everyone who took part - you all posted excellent scores and it is important to take into consideration to range of ages across school. Use it as motivation to train and try even harder for next time. If you are somebody who feels disappointed when you do not win, remember that it is OK to feel this way. What is important is how you react to this. You should always show dignity in defeat, congratulate the winner or winners and use your disappointment to motivate you next time. Every single professional athlete will have experienced defeat at some point in their life, especially in their younger years, and if you ask many of them they will tell you how much losing can help motivate them to succeed in the future.
Long Jump -
Oscar Mc (Eagles) - 1.65m
Washing Basket Challenge -
Casey D (Owls) - 17
Star Jump Challenge
Neve F (Kingfishers) - 104
Chloe P (Kingfishers)
A special well done to Mr Winstanley and Mrs Prescott for your excellent scores! You are this years Parent Champions!
Thankyou to everyone who took part. I am looking forward to next years already.

It’s another fine day Swallows!
Happy Tuesday children! Super work yesterday, both me and Mrs Boneham were very impressed by your creativeness, you are truly a group of talented artists. Keep a look out for these on show for tomorrow's 'celebration blog'. Superstar Swallows!
This is a 2-day task so will take up today and tomorrow. We would like you to tell us all about something that you are interested in. Maybe you are really interested in a certain sport or hobby. Perhaps you enjoy finding out about animals and nature? Maybe Science or History is something you enjoy?
We would like you to research and find out more about what it is you enjoy. Then, you could make a poster or do some writing to tell us all about what it is you enjoy. Make it really detailed and as bright and colourful as you can. Try to use pictures and words to show and tell people all about your subject. Mine would (unfortunately at the moment) involve a certain ‘BLUE’ club from Liverpool - 😊 - But I also love the study of archaeology kids, I am a 'Time-Team' geek (ask your parents to look for it on Youtube) and am fascinated by history...
Caio for now you cool cats,
Mr P 🌈🌈🌈

It’s another Monday Swallows!
Welcome to a new week you wonderful people!
We really enjoyed getting to know you all last week and we have some more exciting tasks for you to complete today! The weekends have just flown by recently, but we really must say thanks to all of you for your efforts to keep going! Today is the last Monday of this school year, how time has flown by and I’ll bet your all about 3 inches taller than in September! I DEFINITELY know that lots of teeth have disappeared over these last few weeks!
Here’s your wonderful attempts at the book task from Friday:
If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Build, draw or paint your dream house. Perhaps it’s a castle or a tree house. Maybe it is as tall as the sky and has a slide for you to reach the bottom. Write 5 sentences about your house to tell us more about it. Talk about the colour, the rooms, the height, the size …. anything you like! Don’t forget to blog them when you have finished (Please do not forget the title, ‘New Swallows Class’). Keep them somewhere safe for September too!
Enjoy this new day, caio for now,
Mr P 🌈🌈🌈

Today will be our last day of the Virtual Health and Fitness Week - in my opinion it's the best one yet. I would like to start by thanking all of you who participated and challenged yourself this week. I have honestly been blown away by how many people participated this week and I hope that you have all had fun. Hopefully, some of you may have taken something from this week that has inspired you to try and make every week a Health and Fitness week in the future!
Activities for today
1) Let's get warmed up with a 5 minute workout from Joe.
If you are feeling an extra challenge - you could try one of his full workouts on the link below.
2) Activity Bingo - today is your last day to finish the activity bingo - can you get gold?
3) Balloon Tennis -
Challenge someone in your house to a game of balloon tennis! I used two chairs and tied a piece of string to make a net. If not, a piece of string, ribbon, scrunched up t-shirt etc. would do the job! Try not to let the balloon land on your side of the 'net'!
Extra challenge - tie an old rag or dishcloth into a knot and use that as a slightly heavier 'ball'. You could use an even heavier pair of socks for an even harder challenge!
Water Bucket Shuttle Run
I saw this idea on Twitter and thought this would be great fun. Get two buckets, one empty and one full. Place them at opposite ends of the your garden. See how much water can you transport to the other in 5 minutes. Measure the water you have transported at the end and let me know how you got on - I am going to give this a go tomorrow! (A bit of Maths involved in there for you too Mr Simpson!)
Home Olympics - Final Event
In my opinion - the hardest yet! They may look simple but this is a very tiring activity which will test your core stregth and stamina. This is a core activity that many professional athletes do daily to help keep them super fit and healthy.
The task is to see how many you can do in one minute.
Have a rest in between and try this 3-5 times to see how high you can get your score!
There will be a survey sent out on School Spider later today to submit your final scores for the week. Then we can see which class has won this years Home Olympics!
Have a great day everyone. I hope you enjoy the activities planned. Send in your pictures and videos for me to check out and repost.
Here's a video I found which might brighten up your morning...

Good Morning Swallows!!!
I hope that you have all enjoyed your first week following your new class blog. You have worked extremely hard and me and Mrs Boneham are very impressed indeed. We have a feeling there may be difficult choice ahead for Star of The Week in September! Here are some more star work shares:
These are just a handful of pieces; we have been spoilt for choice. Keep sharing your wonderful work Swallows!
Today we would like you to complete a book review about your favourite book from yesterday. Use a piece of A4 paper. Draw a picture and write the title of your book in the centre. Then, around the outside, use bubbles, sections or clouds to tell us about the characters, setting, the main events and why you like it. When you have finished, colour it in… Don’t forget to blog it when you have finished!
Have a wonderful weekend all of you and keep shining brightly!
Mr P 🌈🌈🌈
