Good Morning Woodpeckers βοΈ
I hope that you are all happy and safe. Today is a new day, I hope you have a great day :-)
Last night, myself and Amelia went on a walk around Westhoughton to count the number of rainbows π displayed in people's homes. We counted 70!! They really brightened up our day and made us smile. I know that some of the ones we saw were made by yourselves and displayed in your windows so thank you for cheering us up. If you haven't managed to make one yet, there is still time π
Yesterday, I told you about all the great learning which I have seen this week and I set you a few challenges. Right now, I am grinning from ear to ear. You have made me so proud. A big well done and 10 house points to the following children for completing all 3 LBQ tasks: Archie, Oliver BS, Ellie, Kaitlyn, Brandon, Abigail, Lyndon, Heidi, Luca, Lucy, Kate, Millie, Erin, Henry, Jasmine, Emelia, and Rebecca βββ The following children have achieved 5 house points for completing 2 of the tasks: Clayton, Oliver B and Aoife ββ Morgan, I am also awarding you 5 house points for excellent resilience and for giving it all a super go β Well done to you all.
If you didn't log in to LBQ yesterday, I am expecting to see you on it today. It would be wonderful to be able to award 26 lots of house points out later today π
I also set a further challenge on IXL - who could answer 1000 questions. I am super proud of Millie who has answered 1012 questions. Very impressive Millie, 50 house points to you for being the first past 1000. Jasmine, Oliver B and Erin, you have all achieved over the 600 mark so that's 10 house points to you π
Finally, you can now write on our blog and share the work which you have been doing at home. Kate sent this through yesterday, it was brilliant to see her working so hard and I love your rainbow headband Kate! Send in your pictures and I will share them.
Here are today's tasks:

During kindness week, we discussed the impact of our words on others. We explored this using apples. Both looked the same on the outside, however, one had been mistreated and had experienced name calling and negative comments. When we opened the apples up, the mistreated one was damaged on the inside. Just like a person would be if they had the same experiences.
We also explored a piece of paper, which when mistreated, had the creases forever, no matter what we did to try and take back our actions.

It’s only halfway through the term and we have already received some amazing homework about Habitats.
Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:12am
For book day, the Woodpecker class created some wonderful covers for some secret books. Every child visited the library and secretly chose a book. We hid our chosen book away in a plain envelope and then decided how we could persuade others to select our envelopes to read the book.
We were not allowed to write the title, author or give anything obvious away. We came up with some amazing ideas. We cannot wait to choose an envelope next week to read for ourselves.

Today the children have have been learning about the importance of Shabbat in the Jewish religion . They learnt that on the Sabbath day Jewish people aren’t allowed to work, watch tv or play computer games , but instead should spend time with family members making memories doing things such as playing board games or going for a walk. They also tasted Challah and performed their own blessing.
Science Investigation- mini beast hunt

We having been learning how to be brave and how to over come our fears. We discussed how it felt to try something new such as learning to ride a bike or climbing a high mountain and how it can feel ‘scary’. We spoke about how we might not try these things because of feeling afraid. Next we discussed the benefits of trying new experiences and having a positive mindset and never giving up.
We all agreed that we felt more positive about trying and failing than never trying something new !
Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 10:59am
We have been learning how to stay safe online. We also learnt what the actual ages are to access certain social media and why they have age restrictions on them.

The biggest profit was £26!
DEWA Roman Experience β The day we became Roman Soldiers!!
Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 10:56am
The Woodpecker class visited the Roman city of Chester to find out more about the Romans. We visited the DEWA Roman museum and looked at lots of different artefacts and heard tales about the Roman way of life from our tour guide.
After lunch we became Roman soldiers and marched around the streets of Chester. We became gladiators and also learned Roman phrases in Latin. It was great fun!

Our new topic for English this week is about presenting a ‘Battle Cry’. Today we listened to a battle cry, read it as a script then we explored how a battle cry is written and the reasons why certain features are needed.
We are looking forward to writing our own battle cry and presenting it in front of the green screen next week.
Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 10:53am
In the Woodpecker class this week, we have found out more about the Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated.
We discovered that red is used as the main colour of celebration because Nian the dragon, who used to destroy the crops, was chased away by the colour red.
