Subject in the Spotlight - Music

Summer term - week 3

Children in Key Stage 1 are currently studying Victorian music.  They have listened to Rossini's William Tell Overture and discussed its instrumentation, the speed of the piece and how it made them feel.  The children have started to learn to sing 'Daisy Daisy'.

In Lower Key Stage 2, the children have been learning about musical 'canons' which are a similar style to the Frere Jacques song and can be performed with different people starting at different times.  The children have learned how to keep a steady beat and perform a piece in a canon style.  They have also created clapping rhythms in the style of a Mexican Wave.

The Upper Key Stage 2 children have been learning about the features of Rock music, looking at the instrumentation, voices and verse/chorus/bridge format.  They have started learning to sing 'Livin' On A Prayer' and added a glockenspiel accompaniment.
