Homework

Half-Termly Topic Homework

At The Gates Primary School, we encourage children to showcase their creativity and learning through engaging homework activities. Every half term, each phase receives a topic homework web featuring three activities linked to their afternoon subjects, including History, Geography, Science, PSHE, Art and DT. These activities may involve arts and crafts, technology, or physical challenges, allowing children to explore different skills and interests. In addition to these tasks, children have the freedom to create something of their own, allowing them to explore their interests in unique and imaginative ways.

To celebrate the children’s hard work, we recognise and award a winner from each class every half term, as well as the class with the highest percentage of completed homework. We also proudly display our children's wonderful homework throughout the school, celebrating their creativity and dedication.

Weekly Homework

Homework is an important part of a child’s education. Children benefit greatly from the mutual support of parents and teachers in encouraging them to learn both at home and at school. At The Gates, homework is centred on three core concepts: Reading, Spelling and Number fluency (Times Tables and Number Bonds). As a ‘Reading School’ we want our children to become fluent readers who enjoy a wide-variety of texts so regular reading at home is important to build on the skills they are developing at school.
