Penguins- Hand Washing

Date: 25th Nov 2020 @ 8:51pm

Today, Penguins had a very special visitor from the Bolton Healthy Familes Team to talk to us all about hand hygiene and why it's so important to keep our hands clean. We learnt about germs, learnt a new song and even did a short science experiment that meant we could see the germs on our hands! We really enjoyed it!

Penguin Celebrations!

Reception- Diwali Sweets

Date: 19th Nov 2020 @ 3:39pm

Next week we want to have a Diwali celebration and want to make some Barfi (traditional Diwali sweets). We had our first attempt at making them today, we followed the recipe carefully. Our first attempt didn't go very well and our mixture was too crumbly. We now know what to do to improve them next week and can't wait to have another try and taste them. We put the mixture out in provision and the children loved exploring the texture and smell.

Reception - All about Diwali

Date: 19th Nov 2020 @ 8:00am

We are really enjoying learning about Diwali this week. We have been reading the story of Rama and Sita and acting it out. To strengthen our fine motor skills we have been creating our own Mendhi and Rangoli patterns, it has been lovely to see so many bright colours and patterns being made. Making Diwali card has really helped us practise our writing too.

We have also used clay for the first time and made some Diva lamps, the children absolutely loved making these and did such a brilliant job.

I have also enjoyed seeing some of your observations from home where you have been continuing your Diwali learning, this is fab.  Well done Penguins!

Penguins- Bonfire night

Date: 12th Nov 2020 @ 11:54am

Following on from last week we have been learning about Bonfire night again. We have been exploring our senses and thinking about what we might see, hear, taste and smell on bonfire night.

We have loved all the artwork we've done this week, thinking about the different colours we might see as well as drawing pictures and writing what we might see.

Penguins- Remembrance Day

Date: 12th Nov 2020 @ 11:48am

This week we have been learning about Remembrance Day and discussing the importance of remembering. We have been getting busy in class making poppies out of different objects. Along with the rest of school, we also painted pebbles and placed them outside as a giant poppy!

We had lots of amazing poppies made at home too, so thank you Penguins.

Well done to all our winners this week!
Remember to read 5 times a week Penguins to be in with a chance of winning a book!

Penguin Star of the Week

Date: 5th Nov 2020 @ 8:32pm

Well done to our first Star of the Week.  I gave this star of the week because this little girl always gives 100% effort in everything she does and she has blown me away this week with her independent writing where she chose to write a list of all the CVC words we had been looking at!
Well done Superstar!

Building bonfires

Date: 5th Nov 2020 @ 8:30pm

One of our outside challenges this week was to work together as a team to build a bonfire. This meant the children had to take turns, share, listen to each other's ideas and give their own thoughts. We have had some fab bonfires, red groups really blew my socks off this week with theirs.

Penguins Fireworks

Date: 5th Nov 2020 @ 4:08pm

We have really enjoyed learning about Bomfire night this week, the children have been amazing learning about Guy Fawkes and have remembered lots of interesting facts.
We have been exploring colour mixing when we have been drawing fireworks outside. We drew giant fireworks on the ground and have explored making different colours with chalk, powder paint and water; lots of very messy fun, just what we like.

Penguin Celebrations!

Date: 23rd Oct 2020 @ 3:34pm

Well done to all our Penguin winners this week!

What a great last week of term we have had!

You have all done really well for in your first term of school, you have made me very very proud!

Have a lovely holiday and I'll see you in a week.

Pumpkin rolling

Date: 23rd Oct 2020 @ 2:10pm

What an awesome afternoon we have had! We donned our wellies and waterproofs and headed out on hills to roll some pumpkins. Before we let them go we ordered them according to size and then talked about which pumpkin we thought would roll the quickest!
Penguins loved rolling them down the hill cheering for their pumpkin. We realised that the biggest one was often the quickest!
To finish we decided to see how quick we would roll! This was great fun but we need to work on our rolling skills!

If you haven't brought wellies and suits in please bring in for after the half term, thank you!

Spooky skeletons

Date: 22nd Oct 2020 @ 2:17pm

Do you like our spooky skeletons?

We have worked really hard this week to use the scissors to cut the straws and then arrange them to make a Skelton. The straws were really small so we had to use out nip nip grips to pick them up!

Colour mixing

Date: 22nd Oct 2020 @ 2:10pm

A challenge of drawing and decorating a pumpkin outside turned into much more today. The ground was really wet and when we added chalk to it, it changed. They then decided to see what happened if we added another colour; it made a different colour. The children were fascinated in all the colours they could make and the language they used was amazing! Well done Penguins, I am really proud of your learning.

Penguin Celebrations!

Date: 16th Oct 2020 @ 2:56pm

What a brilliant week we have had Penguins!

Well done to all our winners this week!

We still had lots of children on red readers, please remember to send a picture of your 5 reads to evidence me!

Penguins Big Question

Date: 15th Oct 2020 @ 4:39pm

Our big question this week was "How do we look after our minds?" We talked a lot about what makes us happy and healthy and what makes us sad and how that can affect us. The children then came up with different ideas on how they think they keep their minds happy. We have displayed our ideas on butterflies outside our classroom for all to see!

Penguins- Zog

Date: 15th Oct 2020 @ 10:02am

We have loved reading Zog this week! We have been painting pictures of him as part of our challenges and we drew some giant Zogs to help us with our gross motor skills, making our arms really strong!

Have you read Zog and the flying doctors? It's a great story!

Reception writing

Date: 15th Oct 2020 @ 9:59am

Purple group have made me super proud this morning and I just had to share with you all! They worked really hard to sound out a sentence all about Zog. We said the sentence over and over again and then robot talked each word. When we knew what sound we needed we used an alphabet mat to help us write the sounds!

Well done you superstars!

Penguins Growth Mindset

Date: 9th Oct 2020 @ 4:36pm

We have been working really hard on our growth mindet in Penguins this week.  When things get tricky the grown ups have been reminding the children of "I can't do it...yet" and then we are giving it a really good go!  Some children have amazed themselves this week with what they can achieve when they persevere and have a go!
