Doves - Home Learning

Date: 21st Jan 2021 @ 4:22pm

Home Learning

We have had another amazing week of outcomes from those children learning at home. I have been so impressed by the standard and quality of work sent into Seesaw and been in awe of how hard you are all working.

We have covered a lot this week:

Writing up our Fairy Tale Newspaper Report (Writing)

Learning some tricky Maths - Fractions

Creating a wanted poster on The Messiah (R.E)

Reading a book which promotes diversity (LGBT)

Demonstrating our understanding of a river (Geography).

Keep up the hard work Doves!

Here are some of the outcomes from those lessons!

World War 2 in Starlings

Date: 21st Jan 2021 @ 12:21pm

This week in Starlings we have been looking in depth at some of the propaganda posters during the Second World War.

We decided to create our own 'propaganda style' posters for the current pandemic. The results were fantastic!

Swallows - Home Learning Celebration

Date: 20th Jan 2021 @ 9:24pm

Super Home Learning!

This weeks home learning has been taken to the next level by the children of Swallows class! We have undertaken some tricky learning with shapes and money, continued our topic of World War 2 by reading about the London 'Blitz' and researched significant leaders of the conflict. There have been some outstanding examples of learning, especially including presentation and handwriting!

Keep up the superb effort at home Swallows, it is so good to see such effort and we are all missing you in school!

Woodpeckers. RE

Date: 20th Jan 2021 @ 3:11pm

The children have had a great afternoon , hot seating each other as Noah.  They wrote questions to ask him all about how he felt and how he made his ark.  They learnt about the Old and New Testament and the different chapters and verses in the bible. There are definite potential actors in the Woodpeckers!

Woodpeckers computing

Date: 20th Jan 2021 @ 3:04pm

The Woodpecker class have started to use the microbits from the stem box.  They are learning all about coding. This week they have learnt how to make a flashing heart and a name tag.  Well done Woodpeckers.

Woodpeckers Big Question

Date: 19th Jan 2021 @ 8:39pm

Take a look at these 2 brilliant responses to our big question this week. It was based on Martin Luther King and how we could make the world a better place. We had some great responses from treating people equally, making takeaway food healthier, being kind to others and helping others less fortunate than ourselves.

Woodpecker Writing

Date: 19th Jan 2021 @ 8:37pm

The Woodpecker class have worked really hard on their History topic about Wartime Westhoughton. So far they have created descriptive paragraphs about The Blitz using their writing targets and they have also created fact files about the world leaders involved in this huge event.

We are looking forward to our next unit in Writing about biographies when we will be writing about a local solider from Westhoughton. The History group in Westhoughton and a local page called Howfen Memories have been really helpful in supplying Mrs Latham with some great local information for us to use. We can't wait to share our biographies with you!

Great work Woodpeckers!

Doves - The Great Wave

Date: 19th Jan 2021 @ 1:22pm

Art - The Great Wave

This term so far we have been focusing on developing our drawing and painting, aiming to recreate art similar to Japanese Artist: Hokusai.

In the first week of Art, we evaluated his work looking specifically at the colour used and the lines. In our second week, we used a range of dry media to extend a small obscure part of The Great Wave (a painting which is widely known and recognised by Hokusai).

This week, we used our skills to create our own versions of The Great Wave. We discussed the term compsition and thought carefully about the objects which we wanted in the foreground, middle ground and background.

Have a look at our drawings so far!

Nursery learning

Date: 18th Jan 2021 @ 6:19pm

We've started our Pirates theme with great enthusiasm this week. There's been lots of role play, exploring our sea foam and rescuing numbers and animals, using jewel treasures to trace letter, using boxes and imagination to turn them into boats telescopes from boxes in the role play area! Well good children such a wonderful attitude to learning.

A huge congratulations to our first awards winners of 2021! We have been blown over by the level of commitment and dedication to your learning this week Swallows, it has been a very hard decision to choose a winner.

This week's Star of the Week went to someone who has shown outstanding maturity this year, someone who has presented her work with great care and attention and a girl who is never afraid to look beyond what she can do. She has tried extremely hard this week to engage with all learning, embedding new vocabulary in her writing and undertaking some tricky short division tasks with determination. Well done Rosie!

Swallows - Our Week In School

Date: 17th Jan 2021 @ 9:03pm

This week has been an amazing effort from all Swallows superstars! It has been incredible to see just how much learning has taken place at home and there have been some excellent attempts to keep that same focus, just as when in class! The children in school have missed their friends but have managed to send a warm greeting by Seesaw, to the theme of We'll Meet Again' by Dame Vera Lynn!

A huge thanks must go to all the parents who have supported so well this week with home learning. Both me and Mrs Boneham have had some wonderful chats with enthusiastic and supportive families, we will get through it!

Take care of each other Swallows, we will be back before we know it! :)

Woodpecker Awards

Date: 15th Jan 2021 @ 6:31pm

What a wonderful week we have have in the Woodpeckers. So much impressive work from both the children in school and at home. The work completed has been of the highest standard and it has been great to see the children keeping up with such high levels of presentation and detail.

Thank you to all the parents who have worked incredibly hard to support their children at home. It is a difficult time but together we have managed to continue the children's learning to a very good standard.

It was a hard decision for Mrs Latham and Miss Wardle to choose a star but we carefully considered all the work we had seen both at home and in school.

This week's star has been chosen for presenting work using carefully considered handwriting with kicks and flicks, for working hard to make sure targets were in his work and for showing a high standard of behaviour. Well done!

Our TTRS and Spelling Shed awards have been awarded to the children with the highest scores this week based on the amount of time they have used the programmes.

Our reader of the work has completed her reading 5 times this week. Enjoy your book, it looks an exciting read!

Puffins: Home and School Learning

Date: 15th Jan 2021 @ 2:47pm

The children in Puffins class have had a busy time both at school and at home.  They watched the short animation 'The Catch' and used it as a stimulus to to help them to order a story; use ly words (adverbs) and develop their writing of extended sentences. Puffins class has also completed work on addition within 20 and learned  the new phonics sounds 'ear' and 'air'.  They were also introduced to some 'sneaky' sounds in Phase 4.

Mrs Richmond and Miss Southern are delighted with the effort we have seen from everyone in the class.  Every child at home has worked just as hard as the children in school.  Thank you very much to all of you!

Puffins - Afternoon Learning

Date: 15th Jan 2021 @ 12:30am

What a different yet wonderful week for all children in Puffins! Those of us who are in school are really missing all of our Puffins at home but it has been wonderful seeing all the work you have been doing at home! It has been a week of firsts and starting our brand new topics! This week we began our History topic, The Victorians, and focussed on the life of Queen Victoria. We also began our RE topic 'Who is Jewish and how do they live?'. This week we learnt about what is precious to Jewish people. Our Science topic for this half term is 'Materials', we began this by describing, comparing and grouping materials by their properties. In PSHE this week we thought about the importance of rules; our home Puffins created rules for their homes and our class Puffins created rules for school. Our class Puffins have also been learning about what an algorithm is and enjoyed making jam sandwiches as part of our new Computing topic! We had a wonderful art lesson, exploring different media and experimenting with lines and shapes and we enjoyed playing the 1234 pulse game in Music. Take a look at some of the fantastic thing we have been up to!

Eagles: Home Learning

Date: 14th Jan 2021 @ 9:10pm

It's been such a shame not to have been able to welcome Eagles Class back after Christmas as planned, but that hasn't stopped the children producing some fantastic learning outcomes at home this week.
