Well done to all the children who have completed some Titanic based topic homework so far this term. It was great to be able to showcase their work this morning.

Lioteracy Detectives

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:48am

As part of our unit on news broadcasts, Kingfishers spent part of this morning trying to identify the 5Ws (who, what, where, when, why) in written and verbal news reports. The children were that good that they also added a H (for how) to our list of information to include in our own broadcasts. They worked absolutely brilliantly in their pairs and did themselves and their teacher proud.

Home Acheivements 2

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:47am

Well done to all the children who spoke about their home achievements in the second of our class discussions today. We heard all about what our avid readers, gymnasts, dancers and sports stars get up to outside school. The children listened politely and respectfully to their classmates which was great to see. Good work Kingfishers!

Home Acheivements

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:43am

Well done to everyone who spoke in front of the class about their home achievements on Tuesday. It was great to hear what the children get up to outside of school. Who knew we had such brilliant farmers, performing artists, Thai martial artists, water skiers, and enthusiastic home readers in our class?!

Titanic – the preoccupied wireless operator

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:37am

Well done to all the children who managed to fit the word ‘preoccupied’ into a sentence today. We took the chance to do a quick sentence activity after we found out that Titanic’s wireless operator was so preoccupied sending messages on behalf of Titanic’s passengers that he missed six ice warnings on the day it collided with an iceberg.

Passengers of the Titanic

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:33am

Today, we became the passengers on board the RMS Titanic. We each received a boarding pass with the name of a real life passenger and their class. We watched video clips showing us the the difference between an evening in 1st class compared to 3rd class whilst learning about their use of facilities and their living conditions.

Through the use of drama and role play we experienced the different attitudes between classes, learning that the needs of the 1st class were always catered for.

Features of the Titanic

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:32am

This afternoon, we looked at the features of the Titanic. We discussed the building of the Titanic, where we learnt that The Titanic was the largest man made object to enter the sea and 15,000 people worked to build the Titanic!

We then delved deeper into the different types of rooms, looking at the differences between 1st, 2nd and 3rd class passengers. Based on our knowledge of this, we created rooms in a shoe box to demonstrate what it might have looked like

School Council Ellections

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:30am

Well done to those who prepared and confidently delivered a speech on why they should represent the children at The Gates as school councillor. The teachers were super impressed with the hard work that went into all the speeches.

The Gruffalo’s Child

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:23am

This afternoon we visited The Lowry Theatre to watch a production of The Gruffalo’s Child. We all thought it was amazing and joined in with all the rhyming words and actions. On the way home we sat on the top deck of the bus (which was very exciting!) and sang Christmas songs all the way back. What a perfect afternoon!

A special visit!

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:20am

How lucky were Owl class this morning to receive a special visit! We were just discussing how to write our letters to Father Christmas when he turned up at our door! We asked him lots of interesting questions and he was kind enough to give us an early Christmas present. We, of course, then had to have a selfie with Santa!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:18am

Today we decorated the school Christmas tree with the baubles that we made in class.

Kindness Week

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:15am

During kindness week, we discussed the impact of our words on others. We explored this using apples.  Both looked the same on the outside, however, one had been mistreated and had experienced name calling and negative comments. When we opened the apples up, the mistreated one was damaged on the inside. Just like a person would be if they had the same experiences.

We also explored a piece of paper, which when mistreated, had the creases forever, no matter what we did to try and take back our actions.

Homework heroes

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:12am

It’s only halfway through the term and we have already received some amazing homework about Habitats.

What’s it all about?

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 11:12am

For book day, the Woodpecker class created some wonderful covers for some secret books. Every child visited the library and secretly chose a book. We hid our chosen book away  in a plain envelope and then decided how we could persuade others to select our envelopes to read the book.

We were not allowed to write the title, author or give anything obvious away. We came up with some amazing ideas. We cannot wait to choose an envelope next week to read for ourselves.

Today the children have have been learning about the importance of Shabbat in the Jewish religion . They learnt that on the Sabbath day Jewish  people aren’t allowed to work, watch tv or play computer games , but instead should spend time with family members making memories doing things such as playing board games or going for a walk. They also tasted Challah and performed their own blessing.
