In maths this week, we are looking at comparing number sentences up to 20. We had some maths superstars in the class who were able to use < > = to compare number sentences that added up to numbers past 10! Super work Puffins class!

We have been looking at different types of notes and started composing some work. Can you remember the difference between crotchets and quavers?

In Geography, we have have been comparing the weather in Mexico and the UK. We have used maps, weather symbols and added temperatures. We did some research and came up with a criteria for a good forecast and then performed them to the the class.

We have been learning about pitch and exploring high and low sounds made from chime bars, glockenspiels and water bottles. We discovered that the longer the chime bar or the more empty the water bottle the lower the sound and the smaller the chime bar and fuller the water bottle the higher the pitch!

We have been discussing home achievements this week. We have a talented class in Puffins! Well done to the children who showed us their swimming certificate and Sheep Show rosette.

In RE, we have been learning about the Hinduism religion. Today we discussed the Aum symbol and how meditation is important to Hindu’s. We put the aum sound on and practised traditional meditation stances. Puffins class were so relaxed afterwards!

We have been learning actions and drawing our story maps to learn the features of a recount such as time conjunctions. Can you recall the recount to your family at home?

We have done a hand washing experiment this afternoon. We touched bread with hand that have not been washed, hands that have been washed with hand gel and then hands that have been washed with soap. We also washed our hands using the NHS guidelines as a whole class. Then made predictions about what the bread will look like in 2 weeks. We will keep you posted!

We were practising our hopping skills through a range of games this week. We played sneaky mice, hopping colours and treasure island.

In computing, we have started a new topic looking at algorithms and programming. We learnt that algorithms are a precise set of instructions that computers need to be able to program. We practised being robots and instructing our friends to build a model out of Lego. We had lots of fun and learnt that if you don’t give an instruction the program will not work correctly.

All Key Stage 1 joined for an amazing Homework Assembly. These children represented Puffin Class really well! Great work…I wonder what next term will bring!?

We have been discussing the election, democracy and voting today and we have had a little vote of our very own. I think the surprise book won for the end of day story!

We had another special visitor this week, Snowball the elf! He has been messing up our classroom at night. On Tuesday we came in to see he had thrown Miss Thompson’s pens everywhere and was hanging upside down! Today we found him wrapped up in toilet roll and he had decorated our whole classroom with it! We wrote super sentences about what Snowball had been up to, to report back to Santa

Puffin’s class were planning their Christmas letter and discussing the different questions we could ask Father Christmas, when a special visitor arrived! We had written post it notes with our questions on and had the opportunity to ask him lots about Christmas! An exciting way to start December!

We worked hard to prepare Christmas decorations that will go on to our whole school Christmas tree next week. We were all so excited to talk about Christmas and the preparation period. We made the decorations by printing our handprint then decorating them to look like reindeers. They look amazing!

In Maths today we went on a shape hunt (using iPads to record our findings) made shape patterns by exploring the faces of 3D shapes and played a game involving using mathematical language to describe the shapes. It was a busy lesson!
Human and Physical fetures of London

The children did very well to explore using their senses on a carousel this afternoon. They used smelling pot, freely bags, bottles and instruments and then describes what they felt, heard, smelt or sounded like.

We created our own version of the No-bot story and acted it out today. We have some amazing actors!
