World Book Day 2020

What a brilliant world book day we have had!
We first introduced ourselves and told each other what character we are.

  

 

We then wrote about our favourite story character.  Look at our amazing writing!

  

We have also made some book marks to take home to use.

 

Woodpecker class then came down to read us a story; we loved this!

 

To finish the day our grownups came in to read their favourite stories to us!

We have had so much fun and can’t wait for next year already!

Pancake flipping!

One of our curriculum bingo boxes says we need to flip a pancake, what better opportunity than pancake day. This afternoon we have made pancakes, cooked them, flipped them and then the best bit eaten them!

Book polling station

To allow the children to have a say in the story we read at the end of the day we have set up a polling station. Each day there are 2 books for the children to choose from, they have time that day to go and look at the books and vote for the one they would like to read at the end of the day. Then when it comes to story time we read the book with the most votes.

Measuring a whale!

One of our outside challenges was to measure out the length of a blue whale! We worked together to measure out 23 metres and drew a line. We then put ourselves on that line! Look how long it was!

Kindness Week

This week as part of kindness week we looked at what it means to be kind! We had 2 apples, to one apple we were really kind and said kind things too it. To the other apple we were mean and said unkind things. We then cut open the apples and inside the apple that we had been unkind to was all bruised. We talked about how important it is to be kind and what happens to our friends feelings when we aren’t kind.

Bravery

We have been talking about bravery this week in Penguins. We talked about all the different times that we have been brave and read a story all about bravery and kindness!

Digital Footprint

We have looked at our digital footprints this week.  We looked at all the different types of technology we use at home and school. We also looked at the different apps and games some of us play. Afterwards we talked about how to stay safe and what we should do if we ever don’t feel safe when using something and who we must talk to. We called this the butterfly affect! 

Making 10

This week we have been using a new method to help us add to 10. Penguins have loved it and have really understand how to use it and what numbers you can add together to make 10. They have also been using amazing mathematical language to describe. Well done Penguins!

Building Boats

This afternoon we had a great time building a boat.

We went fishing for sea creatures and even went looking for treasure. It’s a good job we had a treasure map!

This afternoon we have had our own mini Chinese banquet. We tasted different Chinese food and talked about the similarities and differences between foods we have tasted when learning about other celebrations. 
The food was a big hit and I was really proud of everyone for trying some new foods!

Making stir fry!

To start off our Monday we made stir fry. We talked about Chinese New Year and talked about the different types of food we used. 
In our literacy lessons this week we are then going to write step by step instructions on how to make stir fry!

Building a bridge

Zoo Lab

What a brilliant afternoon we have had! Alex from Zoo Lab came in today to show use some different animals. We saw a rat, plated lizard, tarantula, Madagascan hissing cockroach, snake and a giant African snail. The children all got a chance to touch the animals and hold some of them; they where very brave. They also asked lots of amazing questions.

Looks like Ellie has had another amazing weekend, she’s been enjoying dressing up as princess and had some very stylish outfits! She even had her very own bedtime story book made!

Exploring water

Whilst outside this afternoon some children starting adding water to the guttering on the wall. They were fascinated how the water moved between the different gutters. But then there was a problem; the water was just falling on the floor! They then hunted to find things to catch the water and then recycled it by adding it to the top again! 
I  wonder what would happen if we moved some of the guttering around?

Chinese dragons

One of our outside challenges this week as part of our Chinese New Year topic was to create a Chinese dragon. Today we decided to use the chalk to draw giant ones. Aren’t they fab?
