Penguins homelearning 21st April

Date: 20th Apr 2020 @ 4:15pm

Good morning Penguins,

We had lots of great learning yesterday, lets see if we can have even more today.  Remember to blog your answers when you have done.  Also don't forget your spellings, which are on the discussion part of your blog when you log in.

I am really pleased that you liked the videos I added yesterday.  We are going to use these videos again and see if we can challenge ourselves a bit! I know you love a challenge!

Maths

I have uploaded 3 videos of the different steps we use when we add 2 groups together.

If you could answer the questions using objects easily yesterday then try to answer the questions today using drawings.  Similary, if you could add them together using drawings easily challenge yourself by using a numberline today.

If you could use the numberline today I have a new challenge for you!

Don't forget to take a picture of your answers or you could video your answers and upload them onto your blog! There where some great examples of this I posted yesterday!

Can you answer the following questions.

So if you can use the number line to answer the above questions can you add the 2 numbers by counting on in your head using your fingers.  Have a look at the new video to help you.

Can you now spend some time on IXL Year 1 addition and see if you can practise some of your addition skills.

Well done penguins. Can’t wait to see your blogs and answers!

Literacy

We are going to continue looking at the story of the three little pigs.  Have you had chance to listen to this story?

Today we are going to write 2 sentences about the 3 Little pigs, just like we did for the wolf.  Follow the steps in the video from yesterday and I have added another little video to remind you of a couple of things.

Challenge: can you add an adjective into your sentence? (purple group make sure you do this!)

You could draw or paint a picture of them too.

Don’t forget to upload your pictures on the blog so I can see what you have been doing.

Red group can you write 3 sentences, make sure they have an adjective in each one and can you use the conjunction 'and'.

I have added an alphabet card and tricky word card to help you.

Phonics play – time for Dragons Den today.  Remember most of you should be working on the Phase 3 sounds.  If you can do this easily challenge yourself with Phase 4!

Don’t forget about your purple mash activities this week too.

Oxford Owl

Remember to spend sometime reading today.  Which books have you been reading?  Can you add them to your blog and let other Penguins know if they are good.  Remember to talk about the stories you are reading with your grown up.  Can you answer questions about the book you have read?  Which was your favourite part?  Where was the story set?  Would you like to be in this story? Nursery Home Learning 20th April

Date: 20th Apr 2020 @ 8:46am

Good morning my little Penguins!

What a beautiful day it is so far. I am so happy that the blogs are working so that I can catch up on all the lovely things you've been doing. Keep posting on the school blog page so that I can see what you've been up to.

Eddie has been very busy with his brother. They have been having some sensory play and making robots!

I had a rather quiet weekend myself. I went for a bike ride and completed a jigsaw. I spent most of my time reading and gardening outside in the sunshine.
I baked some delicious flapjacks but I was so excited that I ate most of them before I got to take a picture to show you. Oops!

Yesterday, I (safely) picked up this big trunk from my grandma's garage. It's very dusty and old! What do you think is inside it? I wonder if you could draw and label a picture of what you think might be inside this trunk...

Today’s home learning is:
IXL:
Maths - Reception – P6, K2
Please also complete activities on Purple Mash and mini Mash.

Don't forget, here is your daily challenge:

Have a wonderful day Penguins!

Penguins 20th April Homelearning

Date: 19th Apr 2020 @ 8:19pm

Good morning Penguins,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are ready for another week of homelearning.

We had a quiet weekend here, lots of chilling out and we watched some nice films snuggled up on the sofa.  We did still go out for our daily bike rides though which we all really look forward too now.

So this week I thought we would try something a little different. I am really missing teaching you all so I have made some videos (with a little helper) to help you learn some of the things we would be doing if we where in school this week.

Maths

I have uploaded 3 videos of the different steps we use when we add 2 groups together.

Can you watch all 3 videos and then see if you could answer the questions below using different objects or if you can by drawing circles?

Can you take a picture of your answers or you could video your answers and upload them onto your blog?

My red and purple groups (you know who your are) can you see if you can work the answers out using a number line please and then write the number sentence down.

Can you now spend some time on IXL Year 1 addition and see if you can practise some of your addition skills.

Well done penguins. Can’t wait to see your blogs and answers!

Literacy

Our topic for this term would have been traditional tales so I thought we would try writing some sentences about some of these stories.

Let’s have a look at the 3 little pigs.  If you have this story at home you could read it or there are lots of online versions on youtube.

In the video I have reminded you how we write our sentences. Can you watch the video and try and write 2 sentences about the big bad wolf?

Challenge: can you add an adjective into your sentence? (purple group make sure you do this!)

You could draw or paint a picture of him too.

Don’t forget to upload your pictures on the blog so I can see what you have been doing.

Red group can you write 3 sentences, make sure they have an adjective in each one and can you use the conjunction 'and'.

I have added an alphabet card and tricky word card to help you.

Phonics play – let’s do tricky word trucks.  How quick can you read the tricky words in either Phase 2, 3 and 4.  Remember you should know all the phase 3 tricky words by now so keep practising!   Don’t forget to challenge your self if you know them all!

Don’t forget about your purple mash activities this week too.

Oxford Owl

Remember to spend sometime reading today.  Which books have you been reading?  You could add them to your blog and let other Penguins know if they are good.

Have a great day Penguins, I’ll check in later!

Let’s kick the day off with some repeating patterns.

Penguin Class Home Learning 17.04.20

Date: 17th Apr 2020 @ 9:16am

Good morning Penguins,

I can’t believe we are at the end of our first day back! Hope you have all had a good week and managed to find time to spend outside in the sun.  We had the paddling pool out yesterday and also got creative with our names to make door signs, which kept us all entertained for a while!

What have you been up to?  I can’t wait to see your blogs to see how busy you have all been.

Everyone should have their IXL log ins now so you can carry on getting through those questions.

Remember:

User name is your child's forename and surname (no space) followed by 352 e.g. johnsmith352

password - gates20

We’ve had so more fab contributions on purple mash but I think we could have a lot more, come on Penguins!

Today’s tasks will be as follows:

IXL:

Maths – Year 1 - subtraction – P.7, P.8, you’ll need a number line and cubes to help you work this out today. Your grown up will also need to help you to read out the number sentences.  Remember you can use objects around the house to help you work out the answers.

English – Year 1- consonant blends H. 8, short vowels – I.20

Phonics play – let’s see if we can grab a giggling grapheme today!  Most of you are on Phase 3, if you need a challenge try Phase 4.  If Phase 3 is a little bit tricky don't worry do Phase 2.

Please also complete activities on:

Purple Mash

Mini Mash

Oxford Owl

Oxford Owl, the company that we use for our home reader books have made a number of books available online whilst schools are closed. Please follow the link below.

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Children can then chose which book band colour they are on using the ‘levels’ tab.

The click on ‘book band’.

You may need to sign up to the website to access some of the books.

This is a great opportunity for children to continue their reading journey with books that are age and topic appropriate.

Penguin Class Home Learning 16.04.20

Date: 16th Apr 2020 @ 9:22am

Good morning Penguins,

How are you all today? It was lovely to see some of you using IXL again yesterday but I think we can get lots on today! Alex is smashing it with 1,514 questions answered, closely followed by Poppy with 1,103 and Jonh is nearly at the 1000 mark too! Come on Penguins we can do this. New IXL log ins are being sent home today so you will have a new log in, unfortunately it doesn’t carry over scores so I wonder who will have answered the most by the end of Friday.
We had a busy day here yesterday, we decided to do some colour mixing which Elsie and Arthur loved, although they still have green hands from the food colouring; whoops! Arthur thinks he looks like hulk though!

There has been some fab Purple Mash learning this week! I love how many of you have been out counting the cars, white cars definitely seem the most popular (just like mine!)

It has also been lovely to read about what some of you have been up to on your stories. Remember to try and write your sentences yourself!

Today’s tasks will be as follows:

IXL:

Maths – Year 1 - addition – M.9, M.14, you’ll need a number line and cubes to help
you work this out today. Your grown up will also need to help you to read out the
number sentences. Remember you can use objects around the house to help you
work out the answers.

English – Year 1- short vowels – I.24, I.25

Phonics play – let’s Picnic on pluto today, can you sort the real and nonsense
words.  Most of you are on Phase 3, if you need a challenge try Phase 4.  If Phase 3
is a little bit tricky don't worry do Phase 2.

Please also complete activities on:

Purple Mash
Mini Mash
Don't forget to try and read every day, Oxford Owl have some great books broken down into levels that you can use.  Majority of Reception are on red, yellow or blue and work within phase 3 phonics.
