Good morning Owls Class!

I hope you all had a great Tuesday! It was wonderful seeing the other half of the class on the Zoom transition meetings. It's made me really excited for September and I can't wait to be your new teacher.

Benson was also excited to see you all! He jumped up on me and was looking at the iPad to try and find you all when the session had finished!

I've loved seeing your self portraits:

Today's task is to draw round your hand and write 5 things that you are good at. Here are mine and Mrs Handley's examples:

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!

Good morning everyone!

I was so blown away by your responses at home to yesterdays challenges. It seems like so many of you got involved and really enjoyed challenging yourself and others. I have attached some pictures that were sent in yesterday.

Good morning Owl Class!

I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday. It was lovely to see some of you on the Zoom transition sessions. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of you today!

Benson and I made the most of the sunny afternoon and went for his first walk in the park. He was a little wary of the traffic nearby but he loved being nosey and seeing all of the other dogs and people who were jogging in the park. We kept having to stop to say hello! He's also trying his best to 'sit' when told to, but as you can see in the photos, he doesn't always listen!

It was lovely to see some of you post your 'All About Me' work - we even had a photo of one of your dogs (who is very cute!).

For today's task, we would like you do draw a self portrait and write 5 facts about yourself. Mrs Handley and I have done one as an example:

I am looking forward to seeing your brilliant artwork!

Don't forget to have a go at today's challenges on the Health and Fitness blog post!

Have a wonderful day.

Owls New Class Blog 06.07.20

Date: 5th Jul 2020 @ 8:17pm

Good morning! This blog is for the new Owl Class in September. Today is the first day of transition and I wanted to say a big welcome to Owl Class!

I am so excited to be one of your new teachers in September!

Normally we would have a day together in school and get to know each other and make lovely things to brighten the new classroom, however this year we will take part in transition acitivities online. I am looking forward to our Zoom transition sessions and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all more over the next couple of weeks.

As many of you know, my name is Miss Whalley and I'm the Deputy Headteacher at The Gates. I've been at school for 4 years now and love spending time with the children and staff at the school. I'm a big softy and love all things Disney and I like to plan fun lessons and have a laugh with the chidlren in my class.

I've got a new puppy whilst we've been in lockdown. He's a cocker spaniel and he's called Benson. He's very mischievous and he makes me laugh a lot! I'll update the blog with pictures and funny stories about him and I'm sure he'll make an appearance on the Zoom transition sessions :) Here are some pictures of him:

So, to help me get to know you a little better, I would like you to complete an 'All About Me' sheet. If you have a printer at home, you can print the picture below and draw on it. If not, you can create your own 'All About Me' sheet based on what the sheet is asking you to do.

I'd like you to draw a picture of:

  • You
  • Your family
  • Your home
  • Your friends
  • Your favourite toy

You can label your pictures with names etc so I know who is in your picture. I'm looking forward to finding out a bit more about you and seeing your wonderful drawing!

Health and Fitness Week:

This week is also Health and Fitness Week. Everyday we will set a separate task on the blog for you to complete at home.

Make sure to have a look at the ideas that Mr Horsley has set on the Main School Blog Page and blog any activities that you have done.

Have a happy Monday

Miss Whalley

Good morning my little Owls!

Whilst we still have 2 weeks left of school, today is the last day you're a member of Owl Class! From Monday onwards, you will be looking at the blogs for your new class and completing transition activities with your new teacher.

Today is a sad day for me as this isn't how we were supposed to say goodbye to each other. We should have had so much fun and amazing learning over the past 14 weeks and enjoyed making each other laugh and giving out lots of hugs, high fives and fist bumps. However, we haven't seen each other in so long. It's been such a strange time but you've all been so wonderful and I can't tell you how impressed I am with how hard you've worked whilst being on lockdown at home. I know it's not been easy for you - you've missed your friends, being in school and all of the fun that we have, but you've been brilliant and I am so very proud of each and every one of you.

You're going to really enjoy your new classes and whilst I am sure you're nervous (teachers are too!), I'm sure you'll feel better after your Zoom transition meetings and getting to know your classmates and new teacher over the next couple of weeks.

I can't wait to see you all in September - whilst I won't be your teacher, I'll still be coming round to see how you're all getting on and I can't wait to catch up with you all and hear your lockdown stories!

Below is a photograph I took of us on our first day in September 2019. Can you spot yourself? I bet you look a lot different now!

Also, on the first day, we completed a 'My first day in Y2' activity where we measured your height and discussed your favourite colour and what you want to be when you're older. The plan was to do the same thing on your last day in Owls Class, but we obviously can't, so that's your home learning for today!

Find your picture and information below and create one for today - you'll need:

  • a photograph of you today
  • how old you are
  • how tall you are
  • what your favourite colour is
  • what you want to be when you're older.

Then you can blog your photo and information and compare how you're different now than you were in September 2019! Some of you weren't in school on the first day, but that doesn't mean you can't take part in today's activity!

I'd also love to hear what your favourite memory has been from your time in Owls Class.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how much you have all changed!

Have a wonderful summer everyone and I look forward to seeing you in September!

Good morning Owl Class and happy Monday!

I hope you had a lovely weekend! Benson met my niece and nephew of Saturday and then he met my Godson and his little brother on Sunday. He was so excited to meet everyone - he kept running around and licking people. He then fell fast asleep for hours!

I've been super impressed with how hard you've been working on IXL - you've answered nearly 17,000 questions!

Today's home learning is:

For today's writing, I would like you to write silly sentences! First, you need to write 5 nouns on separate pieces of paper, then 5 adjectives and 5 verbs. Fold them up so you can't see them and then pick one from each pile and turn them into sentences:

Here is my example:

Noun - banana

Adjective - beautiful

Verb - danced

The beautiful banana danced to the music on the radio.

Either take photographs of your writing and show them on your blog, or type you sentences into a blog post. I'm looking forward to reading your silly sentences!

Check the discussion for this week's spellings.

Good morning my little apples!

I hope you all had a wonderful Tuesday.

There have been lots of people blogging recently and so I wanted to share what they have been up to:

Isabelle has written TWO pieces for the writing competition – a story and a poem – hasn’t she done a wonderful job?

Keiji has been reading a new book and then took his teddies on a walk:

Ethan has entered the writing competition with his poem:

Imogen and Lucy have designed their own superheroes – Imogen created Lazer Girl and Lucy created Friendship Girl. Great job ladies, they’re ‘super’! J

Rosie wrote her letter to the Queen to wish her a happy birthday – didn’t she do a great job with the drawing of the Queen?

Keep up the wonderful blogs – I really enjoy seeing what you are getting up to at home. They all make me smile so much.

Today's home learning is:

IXL - Maths - Subtraction - H10, H11, H12

IXL - English - Verbs - O10, O11, O12

Don't forget there are reading comprehensions on Read Theory and 2Dos set on Purple Mash.
