Robins Class Home Learning - 24.4.20

Date: 24th Apr 2020 @ 8:11am

Happy Friday Robins 😊

We have made it to the end of another busy week, well done you should be very proud of yourself. Today I thought I would include a picture of my two nephews, you hear about them so much I thought you might like to see them. The first picture is my 2 ½ year old nephew doing some foot painting yesterday he loves anything where he can explore.  The second is my 4-month-old nephew, looking very adorable (I am quite biased as his Auntie). Although I am missing them lots my sister sends me regular updates and pictures of the boys which puts a big smile on my face.

Today’s home learning is as follows:

IXL

Maths – Year 2 – Time – W.13, W.14, W.15

English – Verbs – O.13, O.14, O.15

Don’t forget there are 2Dos set on Purple Mash. Times Table Rockstars is also available too, it is great to see some of you improving your times tables knowledge. I’ve seen so many more of you on readtheory which is excellent.

Homeschooling - How to Teach Your Child Spelling Words – Reading Eggs

Don’t forget to do your spelling test today and post the results in the class discussion.

Have a great day in the lovely sunshine everyone.

Robins All About You

Date: 23rd Apr 2020 @ 3:06pm

Some super learning going on today, I am just looking through IXL and read theory and I can't believe how many of you are going on. Try to make sure to do IXL Maths and English each day, I have noticed some of you are only doing one subject.

Special shoutout to Amelia for answering over 300 questions today - you are making great progress on your skills. A lot of you have been on for over an hour today as well. That is really impressive keep it up.

Owls and Robins have earned a new certificate today

Keep up the good work.

We have had some more instructions come through this is an example of Mia's hard work on Purple Mash

I can't wait to read some more. Well done!

Blog Update

One of you has been super busy making Chilli Con Carne (one of my favourites) and going on a long walk. Thank you for sharing!

Robins Class Home Learning - 23.4.20

Date: 23rd Apr 2020 @ 8:19am

Good Morning Robins 😊

I hope that you are all well and enjoying the week, I had some time out in the garden yesterday and then decided to give the guinea pigs a bath. We bought some special ‘small animal’ shampoo for them. I can tell you now Guinea Pigs do not like water, we had a lot of honking and nervous chatter. We found out if you let them grip onto your arm they were a little calmer. At least they are all smelling fresh now for a short while at least.

Today’s home learning is as follows:

IXL

Maths – Year 2 – Time – W.10, W.11, W.12

English – Verbs – O.10, O.11, O.12

Don’t forget there are 2Dos set on Purple Mash. Times Table Rockstars is also available too, it is great to see some of you improving your times tables knowledge. Don’t forget your 5 readtheory comprehensions as well.

Robins Class Home Learning - 22.4.20

Date: 22nd Apr 2020 @ 8:13am

Happy Wednesday Robins 😊

I can’t believe that we are halfway through the week already, it is going so fast. It was great to see the blog updates yesterday some of you have been really busy. One of Robins class has learned to ride their bike and have ridden 28km this week already! Well done, it’s a super skill to learn, you should be very proud of yourself.  She has also been busy planting seeds, I can't wait to see how they grow.

Chloe has been busy doing her topic homework and has made this really informative Olympic poster of where the Olympics have taken place the past few times. Well done Chloe!

Today’s home learning is as follows:

How to Make a Healthy Wrap

Date: 21st Apr 2020 @ 4:13pm

We have had some super entries come in for your instruction based writing task, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the ones I have got so far and look forward to reading more. As predicted they did make me feel very hungry.

Ethan F wrote a super 'You will Need' list, Chloe numbered her instructions and used imperative verbs throughout the whole thing and Hope's instructions were really clear, I think I could make a wrap from these instructions. I have placed some screenshots from their instructions, some good WAGOLL's.

Online Safety

Date: 21st Apr 2020 @ 8:33am

With all the amount of time that we are spending online at the moment, it is important to remember just how we can stay safe online. I know all of you got really involved with this subject when we learnt about it in school but I have attached a few documents that you can read with your grown-ups to refresh your memory - a poster and a story about 'Smartie the Penguin'

Writing Task - w/c 20.4.20

Date: 21st Apr 2020 @ 8:23am

Writing Task - w/c 20.4.20

As mentioned in yesterday’s blog, teachers will now be setting up a writing task every Monday. This week we have set you an instruction based task created on Purple Mash, using the programme ‘2create a story’. You will be writing about ‘How to Make a Healthy Wrap’, your wraps turned out so well when you created them in school it would be great to see how much you remember about making them and what you included in yours. Maybe you could even recreate it at home. Can you remember how instructions should look?

If you can’t quite remember all the points about instruction writing, don’t worry. Here is a reminder to help you

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zhj9wmn

I hope that has refreshed your memory, an example of my first sentence to create my healthy wrap after my ‘You will need’ list might be

I have attached a success criteria below to hopefully help you out, I can’t wait to see the instructions that you write. It might even inspire me to create some healthy wraps at home, I remember being extremely jealous of the ones that you came up with in class!

Success Criteria – Instruction Writing

I have included a title

I have included a ‘You will need’ list

I have numbered my instructions

I have included imperative (bossy) verbs (put, place, cut)

I have included time openers (first, then, finally)

I have given clear instructions that can be understood to the reader

I have used capital letters and full stops

What have you been up to? We had another beautiful day yesterday, I love when the sun is shining it makes me feel so much more productive and really brightens my mood.

Phonics Online Tutorial – Phase 5 ‘ay’

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSo25jhnoII&t=392s

We are starting a new way of looking at spellings. If you log onto your own pupil blog, you will see a discussion that I have set. Here you will find 10 spellings for the week. Please practise them this week and then get your grown-up to test you on Friday. Then you can respond to the discussion with your score. I’m sure you’ll all do a wonderful job if you practise as much as you do when we’re usually in school.

Writing

We are also starting a new way of looking at writing, this week we would like you to go on Purple Mash '2create a story' and write instructions for 'How to make a healthy wrap'. You all did so well at making your wrap at school, so it would be great to see exactly what you all put in the wraps. I look forward to seeing the results!

Super Science

The link below will send you to a great Science/Computing website that shows you how to do some great experiments, such as making lava lamps at home or the basics of computer coding. It’s definitely worth a look and it would be great to see if you recreate anything at home on the pupil blogs.

Have a great day everyone!

Mrs Lenagan's Online Phonics Tutorials

Date: 19th Apr 2020 @ 11:05pm

Mrs. Lenagan’s Phonics Tutorials

There will now be 4 online tutorials per week, covering 4 different sounds from Phase 5 which is what the children were working on in school before the closure. These are designed to be active sessions for children join in with, similar to what they did in school. The children only need a piece of paper, a pen/pencil and a grown-up to sit next to them for support. The role of the adult is to check for correct letter formation (cursive print), support with segmenting and blending of words and support the sentence application at the end. All of which will all be explained and guided throughout. Each week, spellings will be set for year 1 children based on the sounds learned and will include the common exception words (full lists of CEW can be found on class pages on the blog).

Search: Phase 5 'ay' Mrs Lenagan

Or follow the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSo25jhnoII&t=266s

Please feel free to leave a comment, blog any work on School Spider and re-watch as many times as necessary, until the children know and can use the sounds. There are also explanations of online follow up games that can be used on tablets, phones and computers to apply the learning from the tutorial.

There will be a new link on class blogs Monday to Thursday for the latest tutorial.

Good Morning Robins and Happy Friday 😊

How to Turn Friday Into FriYAY, Without Compromising on Productivity

I hope that you are all keeping well. The weather was beautiful yesterday so I am hoping for another sunny day today ready to explore my local area again. This week I have started doing Joe Wicks workouts with my friends using the zoom app, it has been brilliant and really kept me motivated to keep going. I am ready for another one today, I found yesterday quite hard, are you still doing it?

It was brilliant to see so many of you access IXL yesterday after the new username changes, as a class we’ve already completed 2,641 questions which is amazing! Keep up the good work.

Today’s home learning is:

IXL

IXL has been renewed and should be back up and running to use at home. However, there is a change with your username and password.

Don’t forget there are 2Dos set on Purple Mash and Read Theory has some reading comprehensions too. Times Table Rockstars is also available too, it is great to see some of you improving your times tables knowledge.

Also final point (I promise)

I know some parents have been asking about suitable reading books, Oxford Owl, the company that we use for our home reader books have made a number of books available online whilst schools are closed. Please follow the link below.

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Children can then choose which book band colour they are on using the ‘levels’ tab. I know most of you are on blue, green or orange if that helps.

The click on ‘book band’.

Parents, you may need to sign up to the website to access some of the books.

This is a great opportunity for children to continue their reading journey with books that are age and topic appropriate.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Stay safe.
