Happy Star Wars day everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. At least the rain managed to hold off for most of it! I spent the weekend doing some odd jobs around the house, speaking to friends and family on FaceTime and watching some boxsets.

I've been so impressed with how hard you have been working on IXL - a big shout out to Alex, Luke and Jazmin for accessing their learning this week! Great job!

This week's writing task is all about VE Day!

On Friday we Britain will be celebrating the anniversary of VE Day, which is when World War Two ended. A blog was posted on Friday to detail some activities that you could do this week as part of the celebrations.

For this week's writing task we are asking you to make a fact file about what VE Day is and why we celebrate it. Now I know we have not really written many fact files so I have attached an example of this below as well as a success criteria.

The task is set on Purple Mash but you can present it in any way you wish, be this through a poster, a handwritten factual leaflet, a word document, a powerpoint etc. Please include any photos of your finished product so that they can be displayed on the blog.

Example

This is also a great website to look at based on the day - click on the image of the people celebrating to be taken to the Newsround page:

Here is the success criteria to help you know what to include in your writing:

Success Criteria – VE Day Fact file

I have included a title

I have included  facts (aim for at least 5)

I have included sub-headings

I have organised my writing into paragraphs

My facts make sense to the reader

I have included good vocabulary

I have used capital letters and full stops

I look forward to seeing all of your hard work this week Owl Class as well as seeing your blog posts - they brighten up my day!

VE Celebrations – WB 4.5.20

Dear Parents,

Next week marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day and despite not being in school, we would still like to be able to celebrate this with the children.

It would be brilliant if at home you could have a tea party or a picnic on Friday as a special celebration on this day. Some streets are planning a ‘Stay at home street party’.

At home, it would be great if your child could make a VE Day t shirt (decorate a plain t shirt using felt tips of fabric paint) which they can wear to their own VE Day tea party/picnic.

Here are some ideas for your child to complete at home if they would like to. If you do complete any of these activities, we would love you to share them with us on the blog.

Online Safety

Date: 21st Apr 2020 @ 8:33am

With all the amount of time that we are spending online at the moment, it is important to remember just how we can stay safe online. I know all of you got really involved with this subject when we learnt about it in school but I have attached a few documents that you can read with your grown-ups to refresh your memory - a poster and a story about 'Smartie the Penguin'

Writing Task - w/c 20.4.20

As mentioned in yesterday’s blog, teachers will now be setting up a writing task every Monday. This week we have set you an instruction based task created on Purple Mash, using the programme ‘2create a story’. You will be writing about ‘How to Make a Healthy Wrap’, your wraps turned out so well when you created them in school it would be great to see how much you remember about making them and what you included in yours. Maybe you could even recreate it at home. Can you remember how instructions should look?

If you can’t quite remember all the points about instruction writing, don’t worry. Here is a reminder to help you

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zhj9wmn

I hope that has refreshed your memory, an example of my first sentence to create my healthy wrap after my ‘You will need’ list might be

I have attached a success criteria below to hopefully help you out, I can’t wait to see the instructions that you write. It might even inspire me to create some healthy wraps at home, I remember being extremely jealous of the ones that you came up with in class!

Success Criteria – Instruction Writing

I have included a title

I have included a ‘You will need’ list

I have numbered my instructions

I have included imperative (bossy) verbs (put, place, cut)

I have included time openers (first, then, finally)

I have given clear instructions that can be understood to the reader

I have used capital letters and full stops

Good morning my little cabbages! I hope you had a great day yesterday. I can't believe how many questions you've answered on IXL so far, you're all working so hard whilst at home and I'm so proud of you!

It's been really lovely seeing your blog posts come through today. I love seeing your smiling faces and I'm so pleased to see that you're able to keep busy whilst school is closed. I may even steal some of your ideas to try at home! Here are some of photos from the blogs today: we've had people looking at plants and minibeasts, junk modelling, digging and planting flowers, making food for birds and hedgehogs, making space suits and rainbows and doing practical maths learning outside. Junior made yummy looking chocolate brownies and scientist Max M made a volcanic reaction! Well done all!

Today's home learning is:

IXL: Maths - Measurement - R10, R11

Remember, when answering words problems, you need to think about how you can work it out. A good idea is to use the bar model. Here's my example of using the bar model to work out the answer:

IXL English - Verbs - O12, O13, O14

Don't forget your writing task to be completed on Purple Mash this week and practise your spellings on the class discussion (found on your own blog!).

Have a wonderful Tuesday all and keep those blog posts coming in.

Good morning my little pickles! I hope you’re all well and have had a lovely weekend!

It was my niece Erin’s 8th birthday yesterday and whilst I couldn’t be with her to celebrate, it was lovely to talk to her on FaceTime so she could show me all of the presents she received. I bought her the illustrated version of Harry Potter which she is very excited to start reading! Here is my favourite photo and me and Erin when she was a baby - I am, of course, reading to her!

Have you seen the news about Captain Tom Moore? He has raised over £25 million for NHS charities by walking laps round his care home. What a wonderful achievement!

It is his 100th birthday on 30th April - why don’t you make him a card to say happy birthday? Here is a picture of my niece creating hers to send him.

Today’s home learning is:

IXL maths - measurement - R7, R8, R9

IXL English - verbs - O9, O10, O11

We have set new 2Dos on Purple Mash and there are comprehensions in Read Theory,

Have any of you read any of the online books on Oxford Owls? Let me know on your blogs if you have.

We  are starting a new way of looking at spellings. If you log onto your own pupil blog, you will see a discussion that I have set. Here you will find 10 spellings for the week. Please practise them this week and then get your mum or dad to test you on Friday. Then you can respond to the discussion with your score. I’m sure you’ll all do a wonderful job if you practose as much as you do when we’re usually in school.

Finally, there’s a great website that I’d like to share with you that has lots of fun science: https://drchips.weebly.com

Don't forget to blog this week and show me what you have been up to. It’s a lovely way to keep in contact!

Owls Class Home Learning – 17.04.20

Date: 17th Apr 2020 @ 8:54am

Hello my little pineapples!

I hope you all had a good Thursday! Did any if you go outside to clap for our carers? I did and saw lots of people outside their front doors clapping, banging pots and pans and blowing whistles. I could also hea fireworks and car horns. It’s great that we can all come together and show our appreciation for those who are looking after us during this time.

So we sent out new usernames and passwords for IXL yesterday, which unfortunately means we’ve lost all of the points we scored last time. However when I logged on, children in Robins and Owls managed to answer 5216 questions in one day! That’s amazing! Well done my little pepperoni pizzas!

A big shout out to Callum who answered 314 questions and Layton who answered 276 – I’m very impressed boys!!

Oxford Owl, the company that we use for our home reader books have made a number of books available online whilst schools are closed. Please follow the link below. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Children can then chose which book band colour they are on using the ‘levels’ tab.

Then click on ‘book band’.

You may need to sign up to the website to access some of the books.

This is a great opportunity for children to continue their reading journey with books that are age and topic appropriate.

Today’s home learning is:

IXL:

Maths – Year 2 – Measurement – R4, R5, R6

English – Year 2 – Verbs – O4, O5, O6

Hello my little munchkins!

How are you all? I hope you had a wonderful Easter break and are now fully rested! Well it was a quiet Easter for me, which was very different. I’m usually catching up with friends and family, but seeing them on video calls was just as fun (especially when my mum is often upside down!).

It’s been lovely seeing spring arrive and I’ve managed to spend a lot of time in my garden. I planted a new tree last summer and it’s starting to flower for the first time. Doesn’t it look pretty?

I’ve not been able to see my niece Erin and nephew Theo for a long time now, but I’ve been entertained by lots of
photos and videos sent to me. They were also kind enough to send me some Easter brownies through the post. I
certainly enjoyed them with a cup of tea!

It was lovely to speak to most of Owl Class families last week and to hear that you’re all doing well. I know a lot of
you are missing your friends in school and it is strange being at home all day, but this will end eventually and we’ll be back in school with our friends soon enough! In the meantime, why don’t you post a blog update and show everyone what you have been up to over the past couple of weeks?

Today’s home learning is:
IXL:
Maths – Year 2 – Measurement - R1, R2, R3
English – Year 2 – Verbs – O1, O2, O3

Don’t forget there are 2Dos set on Purple Mash and Read Theory has some reading comprehensions available too.

There has been some super learning of Purple Mash – I will be posting some of my favourite examples later today –
why don’t you leave a comment for your friend to show them how impressed you are?

You have all done a wonderful job on IXL so far – we’ve now received a certificate for answer 40,000 questions.
Wow!!

Have a wonderful day everyone! I’ll look forward to seeing all of your hard work online and some blog updates.

Easter holidays

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 10:09am

Good morning my little pumpkins! Today is the first day of the Easter holidays. I think you all deserve a good rest and so I won't be setting any home learning for the next two weeks. I've been so impressed with how much work you've completed on IXL - look at our newest certificate this morning!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend! I made the most of being able to go out of the house once a day and went on some long walks round a park near where I live. I saw some beautiful flowers along the way! I then made some banana bread - it is delicious!

It's been really lovely to see your blog posts - I miss you all and so it's great to still be able to see you via your photos and videos! Here are some from the past few days - lots of fun is being had!

Keep your blog posts coming - did you know that you can comment on each other's posts to say hello?
